The Boone boys’ cross country team competed at the Dragon Sunrise XC Invite Saturday, August 29, at the Johnston High School cross country course, finishing 16th in the team standings and scoring 474 points.
“The boys have gone through some new training these first three weeks and were still getting in shape, but I would say they did fairly well staying in the 19-20 minute range,” head coach Cass Warson said.
Freshman Jonathan Myers led Boone’s effort, crossing the finish line in 19:08.0 to place 90th overall.
Sophomore Austin Felder followed with a time of 19:22.0, good for 93rd place, while senior Kamden Lehman finished 95th in 19:31.0.
Senior Pearson Lampe placed 97th with a mark of 19:38.7, and eighth-grader Ace Wolfgram rounded out the scoring lineup in 99th place with a time of 20:05.0.
Additional runners for Boone included senior Samuel Chesnut, who finished 100th in 20:20.5, and senior Calvin Cook, who placed 103rd in 20:36.0.

Dowling Catholic captured the team championship with 67 points, narrowly edging Waukee, which finished second with 75.
Host Johnston took third with 100 points, followed by Indianola and Des Moines Christian to round out the top five.
“We have a very competitive conference, let alone our class, and we have a little bit of catching up to do but have a lot of time to do it since this is our first meet,” Warson said.
Boone travels to Madrid to run at Grants Woods Park at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, September 3.
