Boone boys’ tennis beats DC-G, falls to Pella

The Class 1A, No. 5, Boone boys’ tennis team traveled to Pella Friday for a triangular and split with a 10-1 win over Dallas Center Grimes and a 6-5 loss to No. 8 Pella.

The Class 1A, No. 5, Boone boys’ tennis team traveled to Pella Friday for a triangular and split with a 10-1 win over Dallas Center Grimes and a 6-5 loss to No. 8 Pella. 

In singles against DC-G, Boone had 5 individuals win in straight sets. 

No. 2 Devin Silbaugh won, 6-3, 6-3, No. 3 Tyler Lindahl won, 6-4, 6-1, No. 4 Wes Van Pelt won, 6-0, 6-0, No. 5 Braxtan Sproule, won 6-4. 6-4. and No. 6 Calvin Jordan won, 6-6, 6-2. 

No. 1 Owen Schneider won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). 

Three doubles teams won in straight sets. 

No. 1 Silbaugh and Lindahl won, 6-1, 6-4, No. 2 Sproule and Schneider, won 6-4, 6-1, and No. 4 Patrick Houser and Kyan Lehman won, 6-1, 7-5. 

No. 3 Van Pelt and Jordan won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4). 

In the nightcap, Pella edged out Boone. 

Two individuals won their singles matches in straight sets. 

Van Pelt won, 6-4, 6-4, and Jordan won 6-1, 6-3. 

Three doubles teams won, but that left the Toreadors just short of victory. 

Van Pelt and Jordan won 6-1, 6-3, Houser and Lehman won, 6-4, 6-3, and No. 5 Brandon Holm and Strummer Grout won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 6-1. 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (11-9).

The boys hosted Fort Dodge early this afternoon but the nightcap against Nevada was cancelled. 

The Toreadors, now ranked No. 6, also travel to No. 5 Ballard Tuesday, April 29.
