The Boone boys’ tennis team opened its season Monday, April 6, earning road victories over Grinnell and Pella Christian.

Boone opened the day with a 9‑2 win over Grinnell.

The Toreadors won five of six singles matches and four of five doubles contests to secure the dual.

Junior Strummer Grout and junior Calvin Jordan both turned in dominant singles performances, with Grout rolling to a 6‑1, 6‑1 win at No. 2 and Jordan following with a 6‑2, 6‑0 victory at No. 3.

Junior Patrick Houser added a 6‑1, 6‑1 win at No. 4, while No. 5 sophomore Brandon Holm and No. 6 senior Logan Wickman also picked up straight‑set victories in singles play.

In doubles, Boone bounced back from an opening loss at No. 1 by sweeping the final four matches.

The teams of No. 2 senior Braxtan Sproule and Houser, No. 3 Holm and junior Sam Chesnut, No. 4 Wickman and junior Kam Lehman, and No. 5 juniors Moses and Silas Jungck all earned wins to seal the dual.

Later in the afternoon, Boone remained unbeaten against Pella Christian, posting an 11‑0 shutout.

The Toreadors dropped just two games total across six matches in singles play.

No. 1 Sproule, Grout, Jordan, Houser, Holm and Wickman all recorded victories.

Boone carried that momentum into doubles, winning all five matches.

Grout and Jordan opened with an 8‑0 win at No. 1, while Sproule and Houser followed with an 8‑1 decision.

Holm and Chesnut teamed up for an 8‑1 victory, Wickman and Lehman posted an 8‑0 win, and Moses and Silas Jungck closed the sweep with an 8‑1 result.

A triangular with Dallas Center-Grimes and Pella was scheduled for this afternoon, but it has been postponed to a future date due to weather.

The boys next host the Boone Invite Friday, April 10, at the scenic McHose Park tennis courts.

Dallas Center-Grimes, Denison-Schleswig, North Polk and Council Bluffs St. Albert are scheduled to compete.
