Boone boys’ tennis tops Newton

The Class 1A, No. 5, Boone boys’ tennis team topped Newton, 8-3, on the road Tuesday, April 22.

The Class 1A, No. 5, Boone boys’ tennis team topped Newton, 8-3, on the road Tuesday, April 22. 

The Toreadors were up, 4-2, after singles, and 3 individuals won in straight sets. 

No. 2 Devin Silbaugh won 7-5, 6-1, No. 4, Wes Van Pelt won, 6-4, 6-3, and No. 6 Calvin Jordan won, 6-2, 6-2. 

No. 3 Tyler Lindahl won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). 

Boone took 4 doubles matches, and 3 teams won in straight sets. 

No. 3 Van Pelt and Jordan won 6-0, 6-1, No. 4 Patrick Houser and Kyan Lehman won 6-1, 6-3 and No. 5 Brandon Holm and Strummer Grout won 6-1, 6-3. 

No. 2 Braxtan Sproule and Owen Schneider won their doubles match in 3rd set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4).

The Toreadors improved their record to 5-0. 

The boys are scheduled to play Class 1A, No. 7, Decorah at 11 a.m. and Class 1A, No. 4, Waverly-Shell Rock at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Wartburg College in Waverly.
