Boone County COVID-19 Vaccination Information

KWBG 01/22/21

BOONE, Iowa—Over the coming months, COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to Boone County residents through Boone County Public Health and Boone County Hospital.  The vaccine will be distributed based on guidelines developed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).  Boone County will be allocated the vaccine from the IDPH on a regular basis.

What you need to know:

  • Boone County Public Health and Boone County Hospital will distribute available vaccine based on a priority system developed by the IDPH.  This system is designed to get the vaccine to the people who need it more first.  The categories developed are included on this website and may be found at the IDPH COVID-19 Classification.
  • It will be important for you to review this Classification System to understand where you and your family members fall within the system.
  • Periodically, the IDPH will provide guidance to Boone County concerning which classifications are currently eligible for vaccination.  This information will be updated on a regular basis and may be found at COVID-19 Eligibility.
  • Once you determine you or a family member is eligible and Vaccination Clinics are available, it will be necessary for you to schedule a time by calling the vaccine phone line at (515) 433-8299 (VAXX) to reserve a spot.  We will also using a dedicated telephone line for scheduling vaccines for those without computer access and for smaller clinics.
  • These clinics will be scheduled as the vaccine is made available to the County.  Unfortunately, this distribution will be done on short notice and it will be necessary to check this website often to determine when vaccination clinics will be held.  Boone County Public Health will use all available local media and social media to inform the public as vaccines become available.
  • Please do not call your physicians office to inquire about COVID-19 vaccine availability.  At this time, all distribution will be through Boone County Public Health and Boone County Hospital.
  • Additional information about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine and other information can be found at COVID Facts.  General information will be added as it becomes available.
