Boone CSD, EDGE Program Featured in National STEM BEST® Video

KWBG 04/17/25

BOONE, Iowa—BOONE, IA — The Boone Community School District and its EDGE program have been recognized at a national level for their innovative approach to STEM education and work-based learning.

The district was one of three across Iowa featured in a video, produced by the National Science Teaching Association, showcasing the success of the STEM BEST® model in the state. The video is available for viewing at https://youtu.be/nFc8f734mQ8.

The video, unveiled at the NSTA Conference last month, highlights how Iowa schools are transforming education through real-world experiences, business partnerships, and a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and math. The Boone EDGE program was spotlighted for its commitment to providing students with hands-on, work-based learning opportunities through collaborations with more than 250 business partners.

“We are incredibly proud to be part of this statewide video and to represent the impactful work happening here in Boone,” said Superintendent Julie Trepa. “To be featured by the NSTA is a testament to the dedication of our staff, students, and community partners. It’s an honor that reflects the entire state’s efforts when it comes to STEM innovation.”

The video will continue to be shared by both the NSTA and the Iowa STEM Council to promote best practices in STEM education and encourage other districts to adopt similar models.

In addition to the national recognition, Boone CSD will host the 2025 STEM BEST® STEMposium this June. Educators from across Iowa will visit the district to learn firsthand how BCSD integrates career-connected learning and builds strong school-business partnerships across all grade levels.

The event will serve as a platform for professional development and collaboration, empowering schools statewide to expand their STEM offerings and build more meaningful experiences for students.
