Boone CSD’s Heidi Hicks Named Iowa ACTE Teacher of the Year

KWBG 06/26/25

BOONE, Iowa—Boone High School family and consumer science teacher Heidi Hicks has been named the 2025 Iowa ACTE Teacher of the Year.

The award, presented annually by the Iowa Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), recognizes outstanding CTE educators who demonstrate innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students, and leadership in advancing career and technical education across their communities.

Hicks received the award June 18 during the 2025 Iowa ACTE Conference at the Prairie Meadows Conference Center in Altoona. The award recognizes secondary educators who teach full time in CTE programs and have made a lasting impact in their schools and beyond.

“Heidi’s dedication to creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for our students is unmatched,” said Superintendent Julie Trepa. “She embodies the purpose and promise of CTE, providing students with real-world skills and empowering them to thrive both in school and in life. We are incredibly proud of her and grateful to have her in our district.”

Hicks has led the family and consumer science program at Boone High School since 2022, preparing students for careers and success in areas such as culinary arts, child development, hospitality, human services, and interior design.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” Hicks said. “My students are my inspiration, and it’s a privilege to help them discover their passions and potential. CTE opens doors for so many young people, and I’m proud to be part of a district that supports and values this work.”

Hicks’s recognition reflects the district’s commitment to offering rigorous educational opportunities that prepare all learners for success.
