Boone Fire Department Responds to Fire at Restaurant

KWBG 07/23/26

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department was called to a fire at the Whistle Stop Cafe Wednesday. The department provided information on their Facebook page:

At approximately 4:53PM today the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of 11th and Story Streets for a report of fire and possibly people still inside the building. Engine 8-65 responded with 4 firefighters and immediately requested an all-call for off-duty firefighters to respond with 8 off-duty firefighters answering the call. The on-duty crew arrived approximately 4 minutes after the 911 call was placed, finding smoke coming from the roof of the Whistle Stop Cafe at 1102 Story St. Truck 8-66 responded with off-duty firefighters but was disregarded to respond to a second out incident.

Engine 8-65 crew arrived and made entry to investigate, finding a small fire in the kitchen that had been contained by Whistle Stop Cafe staff with a nearby extinguisher. Firefighters checked the area to ensure that the fire had not extended any further and had been fully extinguished prior to clearing the scene. There were no injuries reported during the incident. Crews operated on scene for less than 20 minutes before returning to service.

The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Boone County Communications Center, Boone County Ambulance and Boone Police Department.
