The Boone girls cross country team delivered a championship performance Monday, October 6, at the North Polk Invitational.
The Toreadors edgied out Gilbert by just two points to claim the team title in a competitive meet held at North Polk High School.
Led by a trio of freshmen and a strong showing from junior Emma Thomas, Boone placed four runners in the top 10 to finish with 64 points. Gilbert followed closely behind with 66.
Freshman Briella Johnson paced the Toreadors with a 5th-place finish in 19:46.70.
She was followed closely by fellow freshmen Whitney Chesnut (7th, 19:48.26) and Reagan Morgan (10th, 20:00.67), while Thomas clocked in at 19:56.44 to take 8th.
Sophomore Morgan Chesnut (36th, 22:17.28), freshman Elin Selby (44th, 22:47.05) and junior Bryana Morgan (57th, 23:52.59) rounded out Boone’s varsity lineup.
On the boys side, Boone finished 8th overall with 207 points.
Junior Kam Lehman led the team with a 34th-place finish in 19:11.45.
Seniors Owen Hill (38th, 19:27.64) and Wyatt Johnson (64th, 20:52.39) contributed solid efforts, along with juniors Calvin Cook (41st, 19:32.11), Samuel Chesnut (73rd, 21:41.52), and Pearson Lampe (75th, 21:54.45).
Ankeny Christian dominated the boys race, winning the team title with just 24 points.
Both Boone teams will return to action Monday, October 13, at the Raccoon River Conference meet hosted by Bondurant-Farrar High School.
