Boone girls open track season indoors

The Boone girls’ track and field team opened the season indoors Tuesday, March 10, at the Dickenson Relays inside the UNI‑Dome at Cedar Falls.

The Boone girls’ track and field team opened the season indoors Tuesday, March 10, at the Dickinson Relays inside the UNI‑Dome at Cedar Falls. 

Middle distance events 

Toreador freshman Reagan Morgan placed 7th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.51. 

Freshman Quinn Houston (3:01.06) and senior Bethany Van Dyke (3:06.98) rounded out Boone’s efforts in the event. 

Freshman Whitney Chesnut ran a 5:21.53 in the 1500-meter run, finishing 19th. 

In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Kyra Darby ran a 1:09.43 and finished 81st with senior Avah Hayes right behind her at 1:09.67.  

Freshman Quinn Houston added a 1:13.63. 

Morgan returned later in the meet to finish 18th in the 3000-meter run with at time of 11:49.47. 

Sprint events 

Sophomore Abigail Leu led Boone in the 60-meter dash, clocking 8.48 and finishing 44th.  

Junior Halle Bailey (8.70) and Hayes (8.93) also competed. 

Leu also ran the 60‑meter hurdles, where she finished in 11.01 and was 73rd, followed closely by sophomore Maylin Griffis at 11.16. 

In the 200 meters, sophomore Tala Wittrock paced the Toreadors with a 29.33 and finished 68th, followed by Griffis (29.95) and Darby (30.79). 

Field events 

Junior Maleah Shivers threw a 35’2.5” in the shot put and finished 12th, while sophomore Jennifer LaMar followed with a throw of 33’2”.  

Freshman Piper Duncan added a throw of 20’6.25”. 

In the long jump, junior Halle Bailey recorded a leap of 13’4”and finished 74th. 

Relay events 

The Toreadors closed their day with a strong performance in the 4×800 relay.  

The team of Chesnut, Morgan, Finley Houser and Briella Johnson finished 15th in 10:54.47. 

Additionally, the Toreadors’ 4×200 relay of Bailey, Hayes, Darby and Mady Davidson ran a 1:57.30. 

The girls next compete Thursday, March 12, at the 2026 IATC Indoor Championships at the Leid Recreation Center on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.
