The Boone girls’ swim team finished first at the annual Pink in the Pool invitational hosted by Lincoln High School in Des Moines Saturday, September 27.
The Toreadors scored 488 points, well ahead of second-place Lincoln (361) and third-place Cedar Rapids Washington (350).
Avery Howie captured first place in both the 50-yard freestyle (25.94) and 100-yard freestyle (58.73) and contributed to Boone’s strong relay finishes.
Makenzie Klatt won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:12.46 and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.21.
She also anchored Boone’s winning 200-yard medley relay alongside Harper Houston, Claire Enabnit, and Quinn Houston, clocking in at 2:05.96.
Claire Enabnit added a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.31) and a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.05).
Her sister, Lucy Enabnit, also placed sixth in 200 IM (2:43.06) and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (6:16.20).
Quinn Houston placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.84) and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:11.92).
Finley Houser finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:20.15) and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.32).
Morgan Cox placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:08.41).
Sara Gute finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.97) and eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (28.99).
The Toreadors placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Quinn Houston, Howie, Klatt, and Houser) in 4:04.30.
They also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Howie, Claire Enabnit, Sara Gute and Houser) in 1:51.97.
Boone improved its record to 19-4 overall.
The Toreadors will travel to Grinnell for a meet against North Central Swimming Conference opponents Vinton-Shellsburg, Williamsburg and Grinnell Tuesday, September 30.
