The Boone girls’ tennis team kicked off its first fall season with a commanding 9–2 victory over North Polk Tuesday, August 12, at Alleman.
“It was a solid win to kick off the inaugural fall season,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.
Despite a tough start at the top of the singles lineup, where No. 1 Livi Schneider fell in her match, the Toreadors won the remaining singles matches.
No. 2 Kaylee Kuehl, No. 3 Claire Hardinger, No. 4 Juliana Lutz, No. 5 Ally Thompson, and No. 6 Olivia Conlin each delivered dominant straight-set wins, dropping just 13 games combined across five matches.
In doubles, Boone continued its momentum with No. 1 Schneider and Kuehl teaming up for a straight set win.
Although No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz narrowly lost a close three-set battle, the rest of the doubles teams all won.
No. 3 Thompson and Conlin cruised to a straight set victory, while No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson and No. 5 Halle Bailey and Bailey Bunning both rallied from first-set losses to win their matches in thrilling third-set tiebreaks.
“North Polk was a very senior-laden team that game us some good competition,” Latimer said.

The Toreadors travel to South Tama at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 14.
