The No. 10 Boone girls’ tennis team delivered a commanding performance on senior night, defeating Ballard by a final score of 10-1 Thursday, September 11, at McHose Park.
“We played our best tennis of the year against a solid Ballard squad,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.
The Toreadors swept all six singles matches and won four of five doubles contests.
All six singles players won in straight sets.
No. 1 Kaylee Kuehl set the tone with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
No. 2 Livi Schneider followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory.
No. 3 Claire Hardinger cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win.
No. 4 Juliana Lutz shut out her opponent in the second set, winning 6-2, 6-0.
No. 5 Ally Thompson was flawless, winning 6-0, 6-0.
No. 6 Olivia Conlin closed out singles play with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win.
Boone continued its dominance in doubles, winning four of five matches.
No. 1 Schneider and Kuehl teamed up for a 6-3, 6-2 win.
No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz took care of business with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
No. 3 Thompson and Conlin earned a 6-4, 6-2 win.
No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson battled to a 7-5, 6-2 win in a tight match.
The only loss came at No. 5 doubles, where Halle Bailey and Sara Owen fell, 0-6, 3-6.
With the win, Boone celebrated its seniors — Juliana Lutz, Ally Thompson, Baylee Bunning, Norah Baber and Chloe Champ — in style.
“We finished off another 10-win season,” Latimer said. “Our final regular season record was 10-1.”
The Toreadors will look to carry this momentum into the Class 1A Singles & Doubles Region 2 Tennis Tournament Wednesday, September 17, which Boone will host at McHose Park.
The top 2 singles players and the top 2 doubles teams will advance to the 1A State Individual Tournament in early October at the Hawkeye Tennis & Rec Center in Iowa City.
