The Boone girls’ tennis team hosted defending 1A state champions Pella Wednesday, April 16, at McHose Park.

The meet was tied, 3-3, after singles; however, perennial powerhouse Pella was stronger in doubles and won the meet, 7-4.

“It was a great effort all around, and we are closer to being back on the radar of 1A tennis,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.

The Toreadors received straight set victories from No. 2 Livi Schneider, 6-0, 7-5, and No. 3 Shannon Jenkins, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 5 Ally Thompson won her singles match in super tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 1-0 (5).

“Great singles play had us tied with the defending state champs, 3-3,” Latimer said.

Only 1 Boone doubles team, Thompson and Rachel Ungs at No. 5, won their match, 6-2. 6-4.

“Their experience showed in doubles as they had many groups who have played years together, and we just couldn’t get things going,” Latimer said.

Complete results were previously posted to kwbg.com

Pella improved its record to 6-0 while Boone fell to 6-2.

The girls host North Polk (4-5) this afternoon at McHose Park.
