The Boone girls’ tennis team continued its strong start to the season with a convincing 10-1 victory over Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday, August 20, at Grimes.

“Our busy week continued with a solid win over an athletic Dallas Center-Grimes team,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.

The win pushes Boone’s record to 4-0 as Boone swept all six varsity singles matches.

No. 1 Livi Schneider led the way with a 6-2, 6-2 win, and No. 2 Kaylee Kuehl also won, 6-4, 6-2.

No. 3 Claire Hardinger won 6-0, 6-1, as No. 4 Juliana Lutz beat her opponent, 6-2, 6-0.

No. 5 Olivia Conlin also won, 6-2, 6-2, while No. 6 Rozzie Stevenson earned her first varsity singles win, 6-4, 7-5, coming from behind at 1-4 in the second set to take the victory.

In doubles, Boone continued its dominance, winning four of five matches.

No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win, while No. 3 Ally Thompson and Conlin won, 7-5, 6-2.

No. 4 Stevenson and Michaella Anderson secured another straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-2, and the No. 5 doubles team of Halle Bailey and Bailey Bunning battled through a tight match, ultimately winning in third-set tiebreaker 6-1, 6-7 (5) 1-0 (10).

“This sets up a big showdown tomorrow against Marshalltown,” Latimer said.

Boone will host Marshalltown at 10 a.m. today and will host Des Moines Hoover later in the afternoon in a double duel at McHose Park in Boone.
