The Boone girls’ tennis team squeaked past Ballard, 6-5, Thursday, May 8 in Huxley.
“It was a tight victory over a Ballard team that had 5 seniors in their top 6,” said head coach Shawn Latimer. “They battled us all the way to the end.”
The Toreadors won 5 of 6 singles matches, and 4 individuals won in straight sets.
No. 2 Livi Schneider won 6-1, 6-1, No. 4 Juliana Lutz won 6-3, 6-3, No. 5 Ally Thompson won 6-3, 6-3, and No. 6 Claire Hardinger won 6-2, 6-3.
No. 3 Shannon Jenkins won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (4).
Boone only needed 1 doubles team to win its match to secure the meet victory.
No. 2 Jenkins and Hardinger provided that victory winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

“This finishes up our regular season at 11-2,” Latimer said.
All 6 individuals chalked up winning records for the season with Schneider ending the regular season undefeated at 13-0.
Three individuals, Jenkins, Thompson and Hardinger, ended their seasons 12-1.
All doubles teams also had winning records with Jenkins and Hardinger going 12-1.
No. 1 Kuehl and Schneider and No. 3 Lutz and Olivia Conlin both ended 10-3, while No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson went 7-3.
At No. 5, Thompson and Rachel Ungs went 7-1 while Thompson and Baylee Bunning were 1-1.
The Toreadors will travel to Denison-Schleswig for the Class 1A, Region 2, Individual Tournament Monday, May 12.
Two singles entries and 2 doubles entries will compete for the opportunity to advance to the Class 1A individual State Tennis Tournament Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31, at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
Teams in region 1 include Audubon, Ballard, Sioux City Bishop Heelan, Boone, Denison-Schleswig, Harlan, Carroll Kuemper Catholic and South Hardin.
