Boone girls’ tennis sweeps Creston

The Boone girls’ tennis team continued its undefeated season with a clean 11-0 sweep over Creston Wednesday, August 27, at McHose Park.

The Boone girls’ tennis team continued its undefeated season with a clean 11-0 sweep over Creston Wednesday, August 27, at McHose Park.  

The Toreadors were sharp across all courts, winning every singles and doubles match. 

“We moved to 8-0 on the season,” said head coach Shawn Latimer. 

Boone’s singles players rolled through the lineup. 

No. 1 Kaylee Kuehl battled through a three-set thriller, ultimately winning in tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (2), while No. 2 Livi Schneider won 6-2, 6-0. 

 No. 3 Claire Hardinger fought hard to win 6-1, 7-5, and No. 4 Juliana Lutz won 6-0, 6-1. 

No. 5 Ally Thompson blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 6 Olivia Conlin won, 6-0, 6-1. 

Boone’s doubles teams were equally impressive and did not drop a single set. 

No. 1 Schneider and Kuehl and No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz cruised to 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 wins, respectively. 

No. 3 Thompson and Conlin and No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson followed with strong performances, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively. 

No. 5 Halle Bailey and Sarah Owen delivered a thrilling 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory.

Thursday, September 5, the Toreadors travel to Pella. 

“This sets up a showdown with No. 2 ranked Pella Thursday,” Latimer said. “We will find out where we stand for sure.  They have been having a dominant year as well so should be interesting.”
