Boone girls’ tennis sweeps Newton

The Boone girls’ tennis team continued its impressive early-season form with a 11-0 sweep over Newton on Monday, August 25 at McHose Park.

The Boone girls’ tennis team continued its impressive early-season form with a 11-0 sweep over Newton on Monday, August 25 at McHose Park. 

“We played solid tennis and moved up our season record to 7-0,” said head coach Shawn Latimer. 

The Toreadors did not drop a single set across both singles and doubles play. 

All six Boone singles players were successful and won in straight sets. 

No. 1 Kaylee Kuehl led the charge with a 6-4, 6-0, win as No. 2 Livi Schneider won 6-2, 6-2. 

No. 3 Claire Hardinger won 6-2, 6-0, and No. 4 Juliana Lutz dropped just one game in her 6-0, 6-1 victory. 

No. 5 Ally Thompson and No. 6 Olivia Conlin rounded out the singles sweep, scoring 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. 

Boone’s doubles teams also delivered. 

No. 1 Schneider and Kuehl won 6-1, 6-4, while No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, victory. 

No. 3 Thompson and Conlin won 6-0, 6-2, No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson won 6-0, 6-4 and No. 5 Halle Bailey and Bailey Bunning won 6-0, 6-1.

“It was perfect fall tennis weather,” Latimer said. 

Boone will host Creston at 5 p.m. Wednesday at McHose Park.
