The Boone girls’ tennis team won the Boone Invite Friday, August 22, one day after winning a double dual at home.

“We capped off an excellent week of tennis with a dominant victory in our home invite,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.

Boone scored 156 points, followed by Webster City with 83, Council Bluffs St. Albert with 80 and Des Moines Lincoln with 77.

Kaylee Kuehl won flight 1 singles, Livi Schneider won flight 2 singles, and Rozzie Stevenson won flight 2 singles.

“Not losing a match in all 3 flights of singles is a great accomplishment,” Latimer said.

In flight 2 doubles, Ally Thompson and Olivia Conlin finished first while Michaella Anderson and Baylee Bunning also finished second in flight 3 singles.

Claire Hardinger and Juliana Lutz were third in flight 3 doubles.

The Toreadors also took two matches against Marshalltown and Des Moines Hoover Thursday, August 21, at McHose Park.

“It was a great day of tennis for the girls. We moved our record to 6-0,” Latimer said.

Boone opened the day with a powerful showing against Marshalltown, clinching a 10-1 victory.

In singles, Boone had five straight-set wins.

No. 2 Kuehl won, 6-2, 6-0, while No. 3 Hardinger and No. 4 Lutz both cruised through their matches with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.

No. 5 Ally Thompson won, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 6 Olivia Conlin also won 6-1, 6-0.

No. 1 Livi Schneider battled hard but fell short in third-set super tiebreaker.

In doubles, Boone swept all five matches.

The pairings of No. 1 Schneider and Kuehl, No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz, and Nol. 3 Thompson and Conlin and No. 5 Bunning and Halle Bailey all won in straight sets.

No. 4 Anderson/Stevenson edged out their opponents in a tight super tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (8).

“We got a big win over a Marshalltown team that we haven’t been able to do in the past two seasons,” Latimer said.

Later that day, Boone faced Des Moines Hoover and won, 11-0, without dropping a single set.

All six singles players — Schneider, Kuehl, Hardinger, Lutz, Thompson, and Conlin — won their matches, most with 8-0 victories.

The doubles teams also won all their matches.

The team of No. 2 Hardinger and Lutz, No. 3 Thompson and Conlin No. 4 Anderson and Bunning all posted 8-0 wins.

No. 5 Bailey and Stevenson followed closely with an 8-1 and 8-0 victory, and No. 1 Schneider/Kuehl won by default.
