Boone girls’ wrestling places third at Fort Dodge early bird

The Boone girls’ wrestling team opened its season at the Fort Dodge Girls Early Bird Tournament on Thursday, November 20, finishing third overall with 59 points.

The Boone girls’ wrestling team opened its season at the Fort Dodge Girls Early Bird Tournament on Thursday, November 20, finishing third overall with 59 points. 

Algona claimed the team title with 132 points, followed by Fort Dodge with 68. 

Boone had multiple second-place finishes. 

Poppy Malone (110 lbs) went 2-1 to finish runner-up, picking up falls over teammate Ray Kashawlic and Kyrie Schwering (Fort Dodge) before falling to Shayley Butrick (Fort Dodge) in the final. 

Reese Majors (120 lbs) also placed second, going 2-1 with pins over Amanda Geist-Rochau (Des Moines Hoover) and Morgan Keller (Eagle Grove). 

Gracie Vodenik (155 lbs) earned a second-place finish, recording two falls before dropping her final match to Regan Jensen (Algona). 

Cadence Heggen (190 lbs) added another runner-up finish, pinning Stevie Pfander (Hoover) in the opening round. 

Additionally, Abigail Molitor (145 lbs) finished second with a first-round pin

Johanna Meeks (125 lbs) placed third, earning a fall in her final match, and Brooklynn Elliott (235 lbs) also placed third.

Boone is 1 of the 33 teams that will compete at the Central Iowa Kickoff Tournament at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Nevada High School and Middle School.
