Boone PD Participating in National DEA Drug Take Back Saturday

KWBG 10/22/20

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Police Department will be participating the National DEA Rx Take Back Day this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The National DEA Take Back allows residents to bring unused, outdated medications to designated drop off locations for proper disposal.  The October 2019 take back event collected and disposed of more than 800,000 pounds of unused or expired medications and vaping materials. The Boone County SAFE Coalition has always encouraged residents to used the take back event to dispose of unused or expired medications, over the county medications, even pet medications.

The October Take Back coincides with the National Red Ribbon Week.  The Boone Police Department is the only site listed as a participant in the take back for this Saturday, but both the Boone Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff’s Department have permanent drop off collection opportunities.  The Boone Police Department has the collection bin in their lobby and it’s accessible when the office is open.  The Sheriff’s Department has a collection bin inside the Law Enforcement Center which is available for disposal of medications anytime.
