The Boone Toreadors gave their home crowd a night to remember on Friday, October 11, with a dramatic 27-24 comeback win over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson in a district matchup in their homecoming game.
Boone struck first in the opening quarter when Jude Baumgardner powered into the end zone on a 3-yard touchdown run, giving the Toreadors a 7-0 lead.
Early in the second quarter, Boone’s defense made a statement.
After a Thomas Jefferson fumble, Brenden Hedrick scooped up the loose ball and sprinted 48 yards for a touchdown.
The missed PAT left Boone ahead 13-0.
Thomas Jefferson responded with 18 unanswered points, taking an 18-13 lead with 8:11 remaining in the third quarter.
But Boone wasn’t done.
Just seven minutes later, Maddox McIntyre capped off a drive with a 7-yard touchdown run.
Trystyn Heller nailed the extra point, putting Boone back on top 20-18.
The fourth quarter saw more drama as Thomas Jefferson regained the lead midway through the quarter, going up 24-20.
But Boone answered once again.
With just over three minutes left, Bodie Brogden punched in a 2-yard touchdown run.
Heller’s extra point was good, giving Boone the final lead of 27-24.
Jude Baumgardner was10-for-16 passing for 86 yards and had 15 carries for 79 yards and 1 touchdown
Maddox McIntyre had 25 carries for 141 yards and 1 touchdown and 2 receptions for 15 yards.
Bodie Brogden had 2 carries for 4 yards and 1 touchdown, 5 receptions for 35 yards.
He also had 1 interception for the defense
Tate Hollenkamp had 1 reception for 20 yards, Noah Davies had 1 reception for 8 yards, and Dayne Brekke had 1 reception for 8 yards.
For the defense, Hedrick had fumble recovery that was run back for a touchdown, and Jonathan Van Roekel also had a fumble recovery.
Kickers Noel Malin had 1 PAT, and Trystyn Heller had 2 PATs.
Boone improves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in district play, while Thomas Jefferson falls to 3-4 overall, also 1-2 in the district.
Boone travels to face Denison-Schleswig (0-7, 0-3) on Friday, October 17 at 7 p.m.
