
The Boone softball team opened a two-day stretch with a dominant win over Nevada before coming up just short against Bondurant-Farrar in Raccoon River Conference play at Gary Creasman Field.
The Toreadors rolled past Nevada, 12-1, in five innings Tuesday, June 30, before dropping a 9-7 decision to Bondurant-Farrar on Wednesday, July 1.
Boone 12, Nevada 1 (5 innings)
Boone scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning after the Cubs scored once in the top half of the inning.
The Toreadors added another run in the second and broke the game open with five more runs in the third, ending the contest after five innings.
Hadley Gustafson finished with a hit, two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Harper Kuehl added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Hailee Bingham contributed a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.
Noell Davidson had a hit, an RBI and a stolen base.
Halle Bailey added a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Kaylee Kuehl scored twice and drove in a run.
Claire Hardinger crossed the plate twice, while Brooke Weisbrod, Finley Houser and Avery McKay each scored a run.
Weisbrod earned the complete-game victory in the circle, striking out four batters.
Bondurant-Farrar 9, Boone 7
The Toreadors nearly rallied their way to a conference victory Wednesday, but Bondurant-Farrar held on for a 9-7 win.
Tenley Williams had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.
Bailey collected a hit, scored a run and knocked in a run, while Finley Houser added a hit and a run scored.
Abigail Leu contributed a hit and an RBI.
Hardinger finished with a hit and a run scored, and Weisbrod added a hit. Harper Kuehl scored twice, and Gustafson also crossed the plate twice.
Starting pitcher Weisbrod recorded two strikeouts.
Kaylee Kuehl added one strikeout in relief.
Williams was charged with the loss after pitching in relief.
The victory improved Bondurant-Farrar to 11-17 overall and 6-9 in the Raccoon River Conference, while Boone fell to 13-14 overall and 4-11 in league play.
The Toreadors will look to bounce back tonight when they travel to Perry (4-18) for a non-conference matchup.
