Boone swimmers shine at Grinnell quad

Boone High School’s girls swimming and diving team delivered a strong performance Tuesday, September 30, at the Grinnell Quad Meet, finishing second overall with 332 points, just behind host Grinnell High School (357).

Boone High School’s girls swimming and diving team delivered a strong performance Tuesday, September 30, at the Grinnell Quad Meet, finishing second overall with 332 points, just behind host Grinnell High School (357).  

The meet also featured teams from Williamsburg and Vinton-Shellsburg. 

Relay results 

Boone opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Avery Howie, Harper Houston, Claire Enabnit, and Quinn Houston clocked a time of 2:04.68. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Boone’s team of Harper Houston, Finley Houser, Quinn Houston, and Makenzie Klatt placed second in 1:55.67.  

The team closed the meet with another second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Klatt, Houser, Howie, and Claire Enabnit posting a time of 4:03.77. 

Individual results 

Claire Enabnit led Boone with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.69) and placed 6th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.88). 

Lucy Enabnit followed closely in the 200 free, finishing 2nd (2:19.88), and added a 4th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.60). 

Klatt placed 2nd in the 200 IM (2:30.42) and 3rd in the 500 freestyle (6:00.00). 

Howie was 3rd in the 200 IM (2:31.49) and 2nd in the 500 free (5:50.62). 

Sara Gute placed 2nd in the 50 freestyle (28.38) and 5th in the 100 freestyle (1:02.82). 

Houser finished 5th in the 50 free (29.45) and 7th in the 100 free (1:03.01). 

Harper Houston placed 8th in the 50 free (30.36) and 2nd in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.67). 

Quinn Houston had a strong meet, placing 3rd in the 100 butterfly (1:19.24) and 3rd in the 100 backstroke (1:14.57). 

Brenna Bruck and Rachel Ungs added depth in the butterfly, placing 4th (1:26.63) and 8th (1:33.82), respectively. 

Ungs also placed 6th in the 100 backstroke (1:22.05). 

Morgan Cox finished 4th in the backstroke (1:16.43). 

Anthea Law placed 5th in the breaststroke (1:27.86). 

Tessa Gute placed 8th in the 200 freestyle (2:43.62). 

Audrina Elsberry was 6th in the 500 freestyle (7:12.55). 

Diving results 

Boone also had strong showings in diving. 

Amaya Filipiak placed 4th with a score of 163.75. 

Chloey Williams finished 5th with 122.15. 

Boone now has a record of 21-5. 

Boone will next host Carroll (3-10) at home for senior night Tuesday, October 7.
