The Boone Toreadors volleyball team picked up its first win of the season at the West Marshall Tournament, playing three tightly contested matches and earning a hard-fought win over the host team Thursday, September 4.
Boone finished the night 1-2, with all three matches going to decisive third sets.
Additionally, Jenna Johnson dished out 33 assists at the tournament and surpassed 1,000 career assists — a major milestone.
Match 1: Boone 2, West Marshall 1
Boone opened the tournament with a win over West Marshall, powered by Jenna Johnson’s 11 assists and Madilyn Barrett’s 4 kills.
Defensively, Baylee Bunning led with 7 digs, while Taylor Arringdale added 6 digs.
Bunning and Delaney Good each served up an ace, and both Bunning and Johnson were sharp from the service line, going 9-for-10.
Match 2: Prairie City-Monroe 2, Boone 1
In a close second match, Boone fell to PCM.
Johnson tallied 9 assists and 3 kills, while Good added 3 kills.
Bunning and Karsyn Smith each recorded 8 digs.
Halle Johnson served 7-for-8 with 2 aces, and both Jenna Johnson and Bunning were perfect at 8-for-8.
Match 3: South Tama 2, Boone 1
Boone wrapped up the night with another tight match, this time against South Tama.
Johnson dished out 13 assists, and Barrett led the attack with 6 kills.
Good and Smith anchored the defense with 6 and 5 digs, respectively.
Halle Johnson added an ace and went 5-for-6 serving, while Johnson and Bunning again served 100 percent.
Boone now sits at 1-4 on the season.
The Toreadors travel to No. 14 Ballard (4-4) on Tuesday, September 9 for a Raccoon River Conference matchup.
