Boone volleyball splits matches at Newton invite

The Boone volleyball team went 2-2 at the Newton Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, October 4.  The Toreadors picked up wins over Newton and Davis County before falling to Knoxville and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

The Boone volleyball team went 2-2 at the Newton Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, October 4. 

The Toreadors picked up wins over Newton and Davis County before falling to Knoxville and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. 

Boone 2, Newton 0

Boone opened the day with a strong performance against host Newton, winning in straight sets.  

Jenna Johnson led the offense with 8 assists, while Tria Hoyle recorded 4 kills. 

Defensively, Delaney Good and Taylor Arringdale combined for 15 digs, and Good added 2 service aces.  

Johnson and Claire Hardinger were perfect from the service line, going 7-for-7 and 5-for-5 respectively. 

Boone 2, Davis County 0

In their second match, Boone swept Davis County behind Jenna Murray’s 9 assists and Hoyle’s 6 kills.  

Madelyn Davidson added a block, while Arringdale and Karsyn Smith each had 3 digs. 

Madilyn Barrett was flawless from the service line, going 9-for-9 with 2 aces, and Johnson added an 8-for-8 serving effort. 

Knoxville 2, Boone 0

Boone dropped its final two matches of the day, falling to Knoxville and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.  

Against Knoxville, Johnson tallied 6 assists and Barrett led with 3 kills.  

Good and Smith combined for 9 digs, and Hardinger served 2 aces on a perfect 3-for-3 effort. 

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 2, Boone 0

In the final match, Johnson again led with 9 assists and 6 digs.  

Good and Hoyle each had 3 kills, while Davidson added another block.  

Johnson and Arringdale both served 100% with an ace apiece. 

Boone now sits at 8-11 overall and will return to Raccoon River Conference play on Monday, October 13, traveling to Winterset to face the Huskies (9-17).  

Boone is 1-4 in conference play, while Winterset is 0-4.
