Brenda McMahon, 67, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Brenda Lee McMahon, 67, of Boone, died Friday, March 27, 2026, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family.

Brenda was born on November 28, 1958, in Fort Dodge, the youngest daughter of Dale and Maxine Steuerwald. She attended Stratford schools, graduating from Stratford High School in 1977. She was employed at the Stratford Nursing Home following high school. She married Steven McMahon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone in August of 1980. In 1979, she joined the Fareway Corporation as a secretary and was later promoted to Assistant Buyer. She retired from Fareway in 2021, after 42 years with the company.

Brenda was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan and, for many years, enjoyed trips to Iowa City every fall for football games. For several years, she was a member of a bowling team. Early in their marriage, Brenda and Steve owned a speedboat, and she loved boating and water skiing. Later, she enjoyed going out on a fishing boat with her daughter, Erin, and her husband, Brad. She loved spending time with her family and attending her granddaughter’s activities.

Brenda was preceded in death by an infant son, Eric; her parents; and her stepfather.

She is survived by her husband, Steven McMahon; her daughters, Erin (and Brad Kleinwolterink) and Tory (and Lane McKay); sisters Carol (and Don Kaisand), Donna (and Kenny Sanders), and Lynn (and Jeff Smith); sister-in-law Christine Sutton; granddaughters Avery and Levee McKay; three nephews and five nieces.

Throughout her life, Brenda maintained a positive attitude and a kind heart. She was well-known for her ability to find the best in everyone.

Brenda’s family is grateful for the excellent care she received at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center and for the support of their extended family and friends during her illness.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, with Pastor Jessten Heimer officiating. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone following the funeral service. A luncheon will follow the committal service at the Boone VFW, 815 Keeler Street in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial stones, plants, or a memorial donation to the new Boone Area Veterans’ Center.

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, Iowa is assisting the family with these arrangements
