Brian Gustafson

BOONE, Iowa—Brian G. Gustafson, 78, of Boone, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Brian was born November 30, 1945, in Boone, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (McMahon) Gustafson. He attended school and graduated from Jordan High School with the Class of 1964. In January 1965, Brian joined the Iowa Army National Guard and served for 20 years.

Brian worked for the Iowa Highway Commission, surveying throughout the State of Iowa. He then started his 23-year career with the Boone County Courthouse in January 1984, where he began as a custodian, and retired as the Maintenance Supervisor in 2007.

Brian started dating Kathy Majors in 1978, and finally, after he talked Kathy into marrying him, they were united in marriage on April 2, 1993, in Boone. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, vegetable gardening, visiting casinos, and celebrating the 4th of July with friends and family. Brian was almost a 50-year member of the American Legion, a former Elks Member and bowled in leagues for close to 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Miller; and two brothers, Ronald Gustafson and Daryl Gustafson.

Brian is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathy Gustafson of Boone; two sons, Gregory (Nikki) Gustafson of Boone and Jeremy (Kathleen) Majors of Ocala, FL; daughter, Kristine (Eric) Seeman of Boone; 13 grandchildren: Devin, Shelby, Alecia, Alex, Daniel, Melina, Jessa, Nate, Zachary, Samantha, Katrina, Andrew, and Isaac; five great-grandchildren, Alayna, Jonathan, Kolton, Cecilia, Holli and one due in September; sister, Barbara Ginther of Waukee; two brothers, Gary (Beth) Gustafson of Boone and Richard (Tammy) Gustafson of Boone; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Shirley Powers of Boone; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Cooper of Ames and Carol Boucher of Boone.

A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August15, 2024, at the Schroeder- Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Brian’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
