The Boone softball team brought the bats on Friday, June 20, rolling to a 13-5 non-conference win over Woodward-Granger on the road.

Boone wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and matching that with another four-run burst in the second.

The Toreadors added insurance with a run in the fifth and another four-run rally in the seventh to seal the deal.

Leading the offensive charge was Carly Busch, who had a big night at the plate.

Busch went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Brooke Weisbrod also had a home run of her own and two hits and two RBIs.

She also went the distance in the circle, striking out six in a complete game effort.

Kaylee Kuehl chipped in with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Shannon Jenkins added two hits and drove in two.

Claire Hardinger scored twice and had an RBI, and Hailee Bingham and Avery Howie each contributed with hits and runs scored.

Woodward-Granger scored two in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh, but Boone’s early offense proved too much to overcome.

Boone improved to 12-8 on the season, while Woodward-Granger dropped to 13-7.

With the win, Boone looks to improve its 3-5 Raccoon River Conference record with a conference doubleheader at Carroll at 3 this afternoon.

Carroll enters the contest still searching for its first win of the season (0-15 overall, 0-7 conference).
