Mikaela Kienitz, CEO of the Boone County Hospital on Health Talk talks about the business of health care. Through December the hospital saw increased patient numbers and revenue on the inpatient side. The number were some of the highest in two years, with a lot of respiratory cases and an increase in flu cases. The trend has continued into the new calendar year. The number of births in the past calendar year at 130 and near that number expected in 2025. Several community events coming up including another Silent Disco at Boone High School on February 2nd to raise funds for Project Be The Light. Aired Monday, January 27, 2025.

The February calendar has just been made available and they review some of the many activities planned for the library. One of the first is on February 1st, it's Take Your Child to the Library Day beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4th, there will be a Ledges Hibernation Celebration at 6:30 in the evening. Aired Friday, January 24, 2025.

John Roosa, Administrator, Boone County Landfill and Recycling. Roosa talks about the challenges of working to extend the life of the landfill. He points out there are other landfills in the state going through the same challenges. He says efforts are underway to try and divert as much as possible through recycling, but it will be a limited impact. He also touched on operating hours for weekends during the winter season. Aired Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Stines noted that things went smoothly with some projected revenues expected in the next year associated with the Daisy project. He also noted for the next fiscal year a positive balance on Local Option Sales Tax receipts even with all departmental requests being met. Aired Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

He said the big increase appears to be more calls for medical assistance. He also announced that signup will begin today for the Boone Police Department's Citizen Police Academy. The Board did set the public hearing date for the school calendar for the 25-26 school year. The proposed calendar would begin August 25th and end on June 2nd. There would be no early outs on Wednesdays. The board also approved moving ahead with YSS on an early intervention program to deal with vaping concerns among students. Amy Knoll, School Engagement Director, American Heart Association visits about the upcoming “Black Out” Basketball Doubleheader, Saturday, January 18th. DMACC will host it’s annual American Heart Association basketball doubleheader against Ellsworth. Knoll says the purpose is to raise awareness to heart disease, education the public about the live-saving skill of hands-only CPR and raise funds for research for the AHA.
