BOONE, Iowa—The City of Boone has been saving money to purchase a new fire truck in the 2020 Fiscal Year. Boone Fire Chief Justin Adams presented a proposal to the Council’s Public Safety and Transportation Committee to participate in the Houston-Galveston Area Council to assist in simplifying the bidding and purchasing process. Information presented by Adams to the committee indicates Boone could save money on specification preparation, and with bidding and purchasing. He said there is no cost to the city to join the Area Council and bidding meets all State of Iowa guidelines. Several other Iowa communities have already taken part in the purchasing program and Adams says all the Fire Chief’s have been satisfied with the experience.
The Public Safety and Transportation Committee will make a recommendation for Council consideration next Monday. Adams says he will also seek Council permission in October to begin moving forward with the purchase of a new fire truck because it will take 7-to-9 months to build.
