The Boone boys’ swim team scored 241 points and finished 2nd  at the Larry White Invitational held at Southeast Polk High School on Tuesday, December 17.

Waukee won the meet with 302 points.

“This invite is kind of circled on our calendar every year because it is the best competition that we see before Christmas,” said coach Chris Mann. “Even amidst some flu bugs and tough training, our boys had a heck of a night.”

Isaac Clark won the 50 free in 21.15 while Carson Muggenberg finished 5th in 22.96.

“Isaac Clark set a new school record in the 50 free, beating Nick Schroeder’s 2016 record of 21.30,” Mann said.

Clark also finished 3rd in the 100 back in 54.06 with Cooper Jensen finishing 5th in 1:01.68 and Cooper Santi finishing 6th in 1:02.29 in the same event.

Warren Williams was champion of the 100 free in 49.64 and placed 2nd in the 200 free in 150.00.

“Warren had a couple of great swims going a best time in the 200 free and winning the 100 free,” Mann said.

Muggenberg was 3rd in the 100 free in 51.03 while Carden Nerem finished 6th in the 200 free in 2:04.39.

Other top individuals for Boone included Simon Enabnit who placed 5th in the 200 IM in 2:16.35 and 6th in the 100 breast in 1:09.42, Jensen who ended 6th in the 500 free in 5:45.62, and Santi who finished 7th in the 100 fly in 1:08.89.

“Guys like Cooper Santi, Cooper Jensen, Calvin Cook, and Carden Nerem all stepped up to score points,” Mann said. “They moved up and beat people they weren’t supposed to beat and got us those points we needed.”

The Toreadors also won two relays.

The 200 free relay of Muggenberg, Clark, Enabnit and Williams won the 200 free in 1:29.17 and the same 4 also won the 400 free relay in 3:18.63.

“The 200 free and 400 free relays were both faster than we have been all season,” Mann said.

The 200 medley relay of Jensen, Cook, Santi and Nerem were 5th in 1:50.41.

Other teams at the meet were Southeast Polk, Grinnell, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Des Moines Hoover-North, Indianola and Atlantic.
