with us on Coach's corner here in KWBG and a talking Boon Boys tennis as Jed Hammond joining us. Torridor is fresh off their invitational last Friday and I guess Jed that's where I wanted to start with you a little bit because it feels like the weather has been so funky so far this spring but yet last Friday not not awful actually. No you know actually probably the nicest invitation we've had it was our fifth annual and probably the nicest day we've had for that. It was not freezing cold and and the fun was out so we enjoyed a pretty nice day to play tennis all day and we got started a little after nine and I think we've wrapped up about 4.35 o'clock so yeah it was a it was a good day and a lot of guys got to play. Overall when you get a chance to look back at an invitation like that Jed I know there's highs and lows there's peaks and valleys that's that's pretty much a season that's pretty much a day give me a couple of the highs though what were some things that you felt really good about coming out of there. You know it was good to see our returning doubles team that are playing number two for us they they ended up being our flight one doubles team due to we had a player out due to injury and so it was good to see Braxton's bowl and then Patrick Hauser have a good day they dropped their last match 5-6 to a good DCG team but ended up still winning the flight by tiebreak and so they were the flight one doubles champion that was great and then a makeshift team of Cal Jordan and Brandon Holm played in flight two doubles and they just commanded that that flight the whole day I think the closest match they had was 8-3 so it was great to see them kind of step up and have a really good day and and win a win that flight so you know we had some younger guys you know Ken Lehmann and Sam Chestnut both stepping up into varsity role playing in flight two and flight three singles you know just came up short lost a lot of matches like 5-6 so we're right there just lost a lot of dooskins but I think there's a lot to be learned early in the season from some of those and firm believer what we can learn a lot from some losses early on to help you know project us to where we want to be in May. I was gonna say and remind me if I'm wrong Jed because I don't have the the sheet right in front me but can't finish third too did he not if I remember right? He did yep he was he finished third in the flight so that was great and Sam lost by tie break to finish third so you know both were right there and you know pretty much varsity debuts as singles and so you know we just asked for them to step up with with Sturmer Grout out that that day we had to kind of shift our lineup and next man next mentality and so it was good to see two guys rise to some challenges as the day kind of went along and and we were able to still get a runner-up finish and we lost to a solid North Polk team but I look forward to the opportunity of competing against them here later in the season with a full lineup. All right so I know we've had a couple of duels and obviously invitation I know our schedules start to and I'm knocking on wood for a judges so we have the weather kind of stay I know it's not gonna be like we saw on Monday but I mean if we could even come close to somewhere around there weather wise but anywhere I'm going with that as I know the schedules gonna start to pick up so give me a couple things because I know these kids most of them are ready for this but there's gonna be some that all of a sudden go wait we're playing who we're doing what I mean this schedule is gonna get real challenging and real quick real fast. Yeah you know we got we got a lot coming up here in the next week to really kind of see where we stand you know we've been in the preseason rankings here the last two weeks we've been ranked seventh again as I tell the guys that's a number on paper until we start to really prove it and so we haven't really had an opportunity to go out and really prove that yet so those opportunities are gonna be coming at us pretty fast tomorrow we have a double duel against independence in South Tema and then Saturday we go to Pella which is always a great invite with great teams and then of course next week we host Norwalk which is a very solid 2A program and then we have our big big day that's always circled on our calendar when we go up to Waverly and play with Michelle Rock and Decora who are both ranked respectively fifth and sixth in the state so that'll be a top-ten matchup between three teams that day so they're gonna get a real good feel for where we're sitting and where we're at across the states within this next week. Well let's get this weather going so we can keep your voice there sir okay. Yes the allergies have really gotten to me the last couple of days hoping to dry things up a little bit and I can get my four boys back. That'd be good. Jett is always thank you so much for some time thank you for the results as well and I will look forward to talking to a different Jett Hammond here in a couple of weeks. Hey we appreciate the coverage thanks Ryan. You bet Jett Hammond again joining us. Boon Boys Tennis here on Coaches Corner.
