With us on coach's corner on KWBG, going to talk Boon Boy's golf, Lance Johnson joining us as the Torridors. Tell you what, I was telling coach this off air. The last 10 days or so, Lance, I really think, number one, we don't have that number one golfer who's just a standout. And I'm AOK with that because we got a bunch of kids fighting for that one spot, which I love. And two, you guys have played some real nice golf for the last 10 days, coach. You've got to be really happy. Yeah, we've had a nice couple of weeks. And like you said, I don't know that we have a true number one that we know is always going to be our low score. We've had, as a layoff, some mocks been playing in that number one spot for us. And he's kind of been our steady Eddie. But yeah, it's a good problem to have where, you know, if our number one or number two struggles, we know that our number six guy can carry that load for him. Well, I think what else is big, too, is as long as the scores are going low, Lance, I don't care who's number one. And I see a couple of 38s. I got a 39. I got a 40 or two 40s, actually. I feel really good about my squad when those are the scores you're telling me. I want to be a couple of strokes lower. I get that. But it's still the end of April. I'm not panicking yet. Yeah, absolutely. The biggest thing in golf and kind of what we've struggled at historically at Boone, even back when I was in high school, was having that fourth score to count. You know, we would have three guys that could put in the 30s. And then we'd have to take a 47 or a 48. And this year, we've got one through six that can go anywhere from 37 to 41. And that's a great problem to have. We don't have that top end guy that some of those other schools have. But that also creates a lot of pressure where that person really has to perform or it's going to hurt their team where we've got six guys. And I would even probably stretch that to eight guys that we trust and feel can go out there and be low four on any given day. Something else that I was interested to, and I know this is just size-wise, but they're also playing like it, too. This sophomore class has been pretty impressive, this first beginning of the golf season lands. Did you expect to see them where they are right now? Yeah, I would say so. You know, we had Calvin and Jackson played a lot of varsity golf last year. And then middle of the year, Brodie McNay's kind of worked his way in there. And Bo Bass had some nine-hole experience. Truthfully, I wish I could redshirt about half of them because there are some of those guys that are going to be really, really solid that aren't in that top six right now. But yeah, we've got some depth, and I would say they're probably exceeding expectations of what I thought we could do, just in terms of consistency. I knew that they could score well, but they're a pretty consistent group for us. I remember something you told me about during our first coaches, Courtney said, listen, these kids have put in time during the offseason. And I know Iowa is not very easy for getting outside, but they've gotten inside and been able to do a nice job. Are they starting to figure out that, hey, coach, maybe you are right. Maybe I do got to pick up the stick in the offseason. Yeah, absolutely. You know, the golf swing, it takes a while for it to get into true form. And I think that's kind of where we're at now. And so it's just good to spend a little bit of time in January and February, just kind of work out some of the kinks if you're going to go through a grip change or tweak something in your swing. You need to do that when there's snow on the ground. So when we're outside, we're ready to go. And I think they learned that, that, you know, coach has a little bit of wisdom to them. And part of that is just these guys getting older, too. You know, we're still an extremely young golf team. We really have one senior in our top 12 consistently. So more of that comes just with the older they get, too. Do you have to remember that sometimes, Lance, when you're on the course? I mean, I know, obviously, you know that they're younger guys because most of them can drive themselves to practice. But some have to get dropped off. But I mean, you got to remember that, too, a little bit. Yeah, absolutely. And that's what Coach Sandvig and I were talking about. You know, our youth, I think, shows up in some of these 18-hole meets where you're out there for six hours and you can't call time out. You know, it's a lonely place to be. And that's hard when, collectively, you haven't played a ton of 18-hole golf, especially if, you know, most of these kids are sophomores, a couple of juniors in there. But it's just you've got to work your way through it and learn it. And I've got to tell myself that. I think we're going to be a pretty good golf team. I think we're going to be a really good golf team next year in the upcoming years. And I do have to remind myself that four of our top six kids are underclassmen still. So there's some youth and some growing pains. But they're starting to mature pretty quick here. Speaking of 18-hole meets, you had a chance to have one of those at West Marshall on Monday. What do you think, overall, as a team? Finish up fourth. You had Jackson Myover kind of lead the way. Had an 83. And then a bunch of other kids that were right there as well. What did you think coming out of State Center? You know, after looking at the final results of everything, I was more happy than I was disappointed. The week prior, we had shot a 317 over at Woodward. And that was the lowest that we've shot in 25 years as a Boone Golf program. So I think our guys and even myself were kind of riding a little high. But we understood that what we could shoot as a team those kids went into West Marshall and they had the score of 320 in their head is their goal. And we didn't achieve that, but it was super windy day and only two scores were in the 70s. And those scores came from a kid that's going to play at Iowa. And then the other one was the two-way state champ last year playing his home course. So when you reflect on it, you know, more good than bad, especially like you had mentioned Jackson finished sixth as an individual. And he's had two top tens over there. So each of those guys still felt like they had at least four or five strokes that they wanted back. You know, Austin, I think, was two over through nine and finished with an 85. So part of it is just working on finishing. But hey, if we can finish, you know, top four out of 12, we'll take it. There you go. Lance, as always, thank you so much for some time. Thanks for the results as well. And we'll check in with you in a couple of weeks. All right, sounds good. Lance Johnson again, joining us. Boom Boys Golf here on Coaches Corner.
