KWBG 04/29/26

Transcript

Joining us on coach's corner and KWBG get a chance to talk madrid golf today as nick pelger joining us See tiger is going to be a really busy. This seems like one of your busiest weeks of the year nick Hopefully weather holds which it looks like it should you guys are going to be on the course quite a bit this week We've got me tonight at van meter We've got the boys me. I'm over at the hill golf course in Grand Junction And then we have the girls meet on Thursday at Woodward. So yeah, it's It's busy busy lots of fun I think the one thing that that you and I were kind of laughing about off air a little bit just because It's Iowa weather. It does what it's gonna do You're gonna have one of these days where everything pops and it's either gonna be a girl boy meat Or it's gonna be a girl meter boy, but I mean you're gonna have one of those days. I just don't know what it is Seems like maybe maybe soon nick about that. I'll be positive The the beauty of this is it's not, you know, it's not like the pros where you know in the morning There was overcast and rain and then Afternoon, you know the afternoon tea times all of a sudden have sunny skies Blue skies everybody's playing at the same time. So, you know, everyone's got to get through the adversity That is Iowa weather. No, this is true. All right So let's start on the girls side of things coach. I know this was something that when we talked last time Just get out on the course like we just wanted to get on the course get opportunities for the girls to get out there Not just the etiquette because that's always important too and don't get me wrong there But sometimes it's just get on the course and hey, you're playing against somebody else. You're playing in this group You can't call time out when you're on the golf course. You kind of got to figure some things out Tell me how the girls are progressing right now coach It's been good Obviously, I'm very happy that we were able to get down to Pleasantville and I was really hoping that Having all the girls having a full team for the West Central Valley meet that would have been an awesome opportunity Especially with some of the teams that would be there I feel like skill-wise we really match and it'd be a great learning experience for them But naturally Iowa weather we got the West Central Valley meet postponed To a different day, but like again the the girls are they're swinging the club. They're figuring things out and I tell I tell all my new ones just if Ten is a max for each hole Break 90 break 90 and then once you have that break break your best score. Just keep getting lower And it always feels like too Nick and I know you've been out in the course quite a bit as well It always feels like there's there's always a couple of shots per hole Unless you are perfect per hole and then we'd love to have you come to matter it Unless you're perfect per hole There's always a couple of shots that you could do a little bit better on It's always interesting to me and like I would say that Ashlyn Burkhart's a Fantastic kid when it comes to the that example of all I'm thinking about this one shot that I had if I would have done this My score maybe would have been this she's constantly thinking Thinking the game and how she could have done better, which I appreciate and so Yeah, always there's always a few shots you could take away from your round that could have changed everything All right, so let's start on the or let's talk I should say from the girls to the boys side of things and kind of feels like Emerson Bridgewater and Zachary Newell too that I kind of figured I would see toward the top of the top of the chain this year when it came to Madra boys golf feels like they're starting to drop some scores But I'm also seeing stuff from from Taren and from Levi and Corey. I mean we got some other kids that are starting to drop some scores, too Coach I'm feeling like this is where we pop one of those 70 degree days. We got some guys that are about ready to go pretty low We've got we've got a good group and they're they're a young group like Again Taren and Corey Kamma kind of came out for their senior years and we're like Yeah, you know, we'll go ahead and do golf which I appreciate and they've been helping quite a bit But for the most part like our our core is extremely young Which is super exciting and I think Again, the best is yet to come. We just need we need that consistency and Right now the the weather is trying to enter that consistency for sure What are you seeing from them not just out on the course during during meets coach? But during practice as well are we seeing some some some growth that is going on out there? I think a lot of what we're seeing there was This wasn't exactly a practice, but after one of our It was the Woodward meet emerson came up to me And he's like I just I can't figure out shipping from like or any any approach shot from like 70 yards in it And I'm like, okay, so like what are you? What are you trying to do? Like what's your what's your goal here? And he's like well, I just kind of And trying to figure out a feel and see where it goes I'm like instead of trying to figure out a feel how about we take the club back to like think of hands on a clock Okay, you take it back to nine o'clock in your backswing Okay, half swing whatever you want to call it. How far does that go? And I'm like then let's go up to maybe ten o'clock. Okay, how far does that go? Don't sit there and try and feel out 50 yards figure out what part in your backswing is where you're at for 50 yards and so some of some of that just like the simple things that They probably could have figured out themselves, but they're asking questions He's a pretty he's a good kid when it comes to taking feedback Well, Levi cochlear was another one He's he's trying to figure out his driver and we're we're hitting down on the ball and it goes Super high in the air, but it doesn't go far and so he was asking questions yesterday They're they're figuring it out. They they want to learn they want to get better, which is You know, that's all I can ask for that's a coach's dream. Isn't it? It is and hopefully success along with it. Yeah, that's gonna say I guess there's a two-part to that equation in there There's it's a coach's dream and then also I want them to get that the fruits of the labor as well for sure for sure Absolutely get that. Nick is always. Thank you so much for some time. Thanks for the results as always We appreciate those and we'll talk to you again here in a couple of weeks Awesome. Thanks so much for having me. You bet. Nick Pelgrin again joining us Madrid golf here on coaches corner
