Coaches Corner for February 10th: Jared Adreon, Ogden Girls Basketball

KWBG 02/10/26

Transcript

With us on Coach's Corner here on KWBG, going to talk Ogden girls basketball. Is the Bulldogs wrap up regular season wise tonight against Panorama for senior night?

And a lot of stuff going on right now actually at Ogden and then they know their first round opponent, which will be next week with Ridgeview.

That's always kind of the weird thing Jared because you know you're wrapping up regular season, you're going to honor your seniors tonight. That's always a big deal. But then you also know who your postseason opponent is as well.

So you got to keep, I know all your focus on Panorama and then worry about Ridgeview. But that's probably always in everybody's back of their mind a little bit, isn't it?

Yeah, it's one of those deals I think it was announced last Thursday there and it was released during our practice time. So I think Grace is keeping a good eye on me. She noticed me on my phone a little bit more of that practice. That's because I kept it in the refresh button.

I couldn't quite resist that one. And then we were able to share that before our team dinner at the Lucky Pig that night. But the girls are just excited about playing somebody out of the conference and you can see their eyes light up a little bit more.

So just kind of knowing who your last opponent is going to be before we survive an advanced type mentality at the end of the year is exciting. And you kind of saw the energy pick up at practice. And like we said, we're completely focused on Panorama.

I think I just spent a couple minutes there just getting an idea of what they will bring with Ridgeview.

But all of our game prep and practice prep has been to have a successful last home game for our seniors, Lauren and Anna, that have put in a tremendous four years for our program. And we just really appreciate it.

We actually watched a video last Monday that we put together with the senior parents.

And that was really fun to put together and work in unison with those parents to collect those old youth photos and kind of just looking at their whole career, but also talking about who they are as people and who they've become and are still becoming.

So you didn't go there with players. Now, hold on, Jared, you didn't go sappy music in this video. Did you get some upbeat stuff? Some like you didn't do like Green Day time of your life or anything like that? Did you? I think we did. I think that's the song. Okay.

That's what I thought. Listen, it's the staple of ending any sort of season or career. You got to put Green Day's time of your life on there. I won't give you any grief. It's a good tune. It's a good tune.

Well, panorama, though, this is a team that the first time you guys got together, man, you guys battled and they kind of took things over later. I was at that game or I remember seeing you guys. It was one of those games.

I still think Jared, we're going to look back on the season. We're probably going to say this about three or four times about probably three or four different games. You guys were in the game, you had opportunities and they kind of pulled away late.

Yeah, it's one of those where I think we just continued to battle, especially with the young team is building that identity and that foundation. And that was a game where I think we were able to accomplish that and get better.

And we had some different kids kind of step up that game as well. So that's always good to see because you just never know when your name is going to be called. And we preached that a lot.

We just had some different kids that stepped up and did some different things for us and just stayed true to what we're trying to build. So I was really proud of them that night, but we're going to continue to press to keep things close.

And that'll put a lot of pressure on other teams. And when you keep things close and we'll see what happens there in the second half. And I think if you keep working really hard and keeping our effort and attitudes well, I think our kids will get rewarded.

So I just kind of the message after Friday night's game is, you know, let's surprise ourselves a little bit and just have a really good preparation practice on Monday.

And you never know what might happen on Tuesday night, especially senior nights, you know, something something really, really good could happen if we play really hard. Well, and you're a different team, too, than the first time you guys got together.

You guys have gotten different contributions from many different spots. And so that I think is always kind of exciting when you get toward the tail end of the season and end of postseason. Jared is you're not the same team as you were back when you played Panorama.

You're not the same team as you were back when you played Interstate 35. I'm just throwing teams out of, you know, that I know you played back.

And I mean, that's the exciting thing as you go through a season is that now these sophomores and juniors and freshmen, they might have still some moments where they do something that's a sophomore mistake.

But I mean, let's be honest, your sophomores have to start playing like juniors, your freshmen sophomores, and you kind of know the rest of how that works. I mean, that's just kind of the nature of the beast.

Yeah, we've talked about that a lot, especially with the experience that this the younger group has gotten. And even Anna and Lauren, too, and our juniors, you know, Elena Sawyer have really built some of that experience over the years of playing varsity.

So that's been really good for us. But I think that's just something where we've just continued to push each other, working together as a team.

And we've talked to about our big proponent, these last couple of games is going to be our defense and our rebounding, because I think those are the two of the things that just really are based on attitude and effort.

And if we're always doing those things, it doesn't matter what gym we're playing in, that can help push yourself to get a W that night. Where some of the offensive stuff, sometimes that's kind of rhythm.

And, you know, if the ball is falling your way or not, defense and rebounding is where we need to say the most consistent. And we'll keep pushing to get better with our shooting and our finishing and taking care of the basketball.

But the controllable, the defensive rebounding are are two biggest things that we're really hitting on these last couple weeks here. Well, that's what they always say, don't they, Jared control what you can control.

And that's some things, like you said, you can control your effort and you can control, you know, your attitude and those two things, man, when those two things come together, that's usually when some success happens. You know, yep.

And I think that's what you can control the glass, you know, get a good offense rebound here and there and get another opportunity to score more limited team, just a one shot that just really helps your team.

And, and obviously taking care of the ball is one we've been stressing the last, I mean, even the last couple of years is one that we're continuing to push on. And that's just our guys that are getting more used to playing against varsity competition.

And I think it's an area where sometimes the number isn't so quite where we want it. But when you watch back the film, and when we talk, coach, like I talk after the game, we know it's an area that this group is getting better at.

So we're just going to continue to encourage them to stay strong with the ball and look to be aggressive when you can and, and share the ball with each other. That's all you can do. Jared, best of luck here tonight in preparation as well for Ridgeview.

And we'll see in Holstein coming up next week. All right, you're looking forward to it. Thank you. You bet Jared Adrian again, joining us, Auden Girls basketball here in Coach's Corner.
