with us on coach's corner here in KWBG gonna talk matter of girls basketball Tigers get ready for postseason coming up on Saturday night as they will travel to East Sac County we'll talk more about them here in just a few coach you didn't maybe get a chance to well to breathe too much because I know ACGC comes at you and presses everywhere when it comes to the court but you guys hung around last night were you were you okay I guess with that part of the effort yeah it's going over to ACGC's just it's a different gym it's a dark gym it's a it's a tight gym and we've had some not so good experiences over there and so the nice part about ACGC is you know what you're getting there's there's no surprises and so going over there we knew it was going to be a tough one and but it was honestly what we needed going into what we're gonna see on Saturday with with press and zone pressure and so it gave us a good look at and probably a better look of than what we're gonna see on Saturday so it was honestly the perfect game to kind of end the season with and so we were battling a few injuries and battled some foul trouble and so we had some girls get thrown into the fire last night that played ten to eighteen minutes last night that maybe hadn't seen a significant varsity minute and so all in all continued to battle and yeah so happy with the effort wasn't consistent for 32 minutes and we talked about that after the game but again that that one's irrelevant so it has no bearing on any conference standings or where you go that's all been decided so you go and you play and start trying to build some momentum for for what's next well and Kelvin you guys have had the attitude for I think ever since you took over next girl up if somebody's not you know contributing that night who's gonna step up but there's an injury if there's an illness or something next girl up so it sounds like those girls that maybe didn't see significant minutes during the season it sounds like they were at least prepared and ready to go and I think that's been a benefit of us having a JV schedule this year too so yeah I haven't had that the past few years so when it's been next girl up it's been literally a girl sitting in a warm-up top that's maybe hasn't seen the court in eight or ten games at all and so last night yeah we had an injury or two and gotten some foul trouble and so all of a sudden we're going to our eight nine ten on the bench which we haven't done all year but those girls have at least got a lot of reps in JV games this year obviously they're getting reps in practice every day and we say next girl up you got to stay ready and so I felt last night again going into a game against ACGC it's it's not like going in to a different game it's I mean you're going in against a team that's coming at you for at least three quarters you're seeing a trap every time you catch the ball and I thought I thought they handled it well again we we turned it over too much but to be thrown to the fire like that I thought they played with some poison some composure and we're able to turn the page and play present when they needed to and so and it was good I guess foul trouble is never good no but we had a lot of girls last night play between you know 10 and 20 minutes even starters too so able to save some legs a little bit and get a little bit of rest before going in Saturday where hopefully we're fully healthy and and got our legs and again no one no one tend to go ten deep on Saturday if we don't have to but if so girls got some experience last night well and you've had an opportunity which I guess I still feel like the pairings have come out a little bit later this year and maybe Kelvin they haven't and I just need to look back but at least you've had a little bit of time and I know you're worrying about the next team up but let's be honest coaching you you're taking a peek at East Sac County you're kind of getting a preliminary scouting report put together yeah we when we saw it come out on Thursday we didn't worry about it at all that night because we had senior night the next night against I-35 so that was fully our focus and so we you know we announced it to the girls and scout and film that night and just said you know we're gonna announce it because you're gonna hear it we'll talk about it for about 30 seconds here and then and then we forget about it and so but yeah through the next week you know obviously we've been pulling film and and starting to watch that our assistants and and stuff and so we're aware of we've had some stuff on paper and started to talk about that and we'll dive start diving into that in practice tonight so the positive part Kelvin if I can take anything out of this because one for me it's disappointing and I know for for you guys as well to not be driving over to mattered high school on Saturday night see a home game but I if I can take any positive out of this matchup for Saturday Kelvin you're not playing a conference opponent and that's what I've been asking for for I don't even know how many years I don't want my teams to play a conference opponent first round if you play in the second round could you both one good job but at least make you have to play somebody else so if there's one positive Kelvin I'll take away from Saturday you're not taking on a West Central activity conference team and and we said that before as coaches before the parents came out and I told I told the girls that on Thursday night that yeah I'll play I'll play anyone that's not a conference school that it's never easy to play a team two or three times that you're familiar with you know we were disappointed in that we thought our body of work this year of giving ten wins we thought maybe with just the travel wise was maybe the worst draw we had and in our five years and so we didn't know whether we'd have a buyer be a play in but we thought for sure we'd be potentially at home the first game but obviously I'm not sure the state cares too much about what I think when it comes to postseason pairing so you know we talked about that we didn't hide that with the girls that we thought they had done enough to at least be playing home on Saturday but you know we're gonna put it a chip on our shoulder and we're gonna go to work there's nothing you can do about it so we talked play present mindset and and turn the page so we told them as coaches we weren't you know super excited about just the travel but we like the opponent it's out of conference that's what we had asked for and we got it so chip on our shoulder and here we go like you two hours away we're coming yeah absolutely are going to now the one thing that I wanted to end with Kelvin because this is kind of an interesting dilemma you find yourself in because I know how much you love March Madness I know how much you love Super Bowl Sunday I know how much you love Taco Tuesday one of your favorite holidays of all the season is coming up on Saturday with Valentine's Day now obviously you got a basketball game to prepare for so you can't really celebrate as much as you'd like to what will you do to kind of fix that for Saturday well I already heard about it between first and second period I get the I get the luxury of seeing my wife every day at work too and so she let a number of our students between first and second period know that I was gonna be spending Valentine's Day two hours away and a gym so their rebuttal right away was you know what do you get in there to make up for it and I just said she's got an Amazon card go ahead have a rookie mistake I've added I call it a veteran I call it a veteran expertise so just I can't mess it up then order what you want and she'll be happy and and then hopefully I'll be happy on the way home from Lakeview on Saturday night everyone wins everybody went all right that's what I love to hear that's what I love to hear Kelvin as as
