Joining us on coaches corner, KWBG, get a chance to talk Ogden Girls wrestling today. I know, I know you're thinking, wait a second, we're in July, right? But head coach Scott McCloud's got some big stuff that's coming up and we've got a cool guest speaker that's gonna come over to Ogden. We're gonna give you guys opportunities to get registered and send your girls over on August the eighth and we'll get more about that in a second. I was gonna end the interview with this, Scott, but I kind of feel like I wanna start the interview with this. I need to know about your summer because I know you guys have been busy with open mats on Sundays, but I also saw you jump off like a big cliff into a water or something this summer. What the heck was that all about? Yeah, you know, Brent and I went to Hawaii to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and I have always wanted to jump off a cliff over a waterfall and I did it three times, actually. I was kind of hoping for a big cannonball, but I mean, what I saw was pretty good. Well, tell you what, you can ask Brenda, but I'm not as graceful as I looked on camera. What? There might have been, there might have been some slippage and yeah, it wasn't very graceful. I'm not gonna lie to you. Are you telling me there was some clever editing that might have happened? No, no editing, just awkward landing and feet out from underneath me. It was, did you see the one where she got me sitting on the beach, knocked over by the wave? I mean, listen, if there's not a postcard out of that, I don't know what we're doing. I'm just saying, this could be Ogden Girls Wrestling says happy holidays. I love this idea.
I actually, off radio, I will tell you another story about that. Oh boy, we better get to the camp that's coming up and why we had Scott on today, but coach, you got something in all seriousness. You got a great summer camp that's coming up from the Ogden Girls Wrestling Camp. It's gonna be on August the 8th. We're talking grades first through senior, so I mean, the littles who are just getting started to the girls that maybe only have a year left to wrestling and you've got a big speaker coming in, Scott. Tell me about Lily a little bit. We do, you know what, I'm a big proponent of, summer wrestling makes winner champions and with us bringing in Lily Lough, tell you what, she is a staple of girls wrestling. She was a three time state champ for Charles City. I think she had a record of 125 and six. I know she went 40 and over senior year and then she's wrestling for the Hawkeyes. And so I'm a big fan of the Hawkeyes anyway and she's a two time place winner at Nationals for the Hawkeyes right now. So I think she placed fourth her freshman year and fifth her last year. So she is just, she's a staple of girls wrestling, kind of iconic and for the fact that we got her to come to Ogden and teach my girls and teach the other girls some of her practices and her mental toughness and her relentless attacks. It's gonna be amazing. Sounds like it's gonna be a great camp again coming up on August the eighth and registration. I know we've still got opportunities to get in which is great. I love when I don't hear a sold out camp because that means I can get some more girls from Boone County and maybe not even just Boone County. Coach, this is open to anybody that's got $60 that wants to learn a little bit about some wrestling, huh? Yeah, and it's money well spent. We're gonna do one camp from 10 o'clock till one o'clock. So you're getting three hours of coaching from Lily, three hours of one-on-one coaching with her, her philosophies, her technique, you know. And that's, it's open to anybody. I wanna see the girls, the girls wrestling, not just in Ogden, but all over Boone County, Southeast Warren, any school that wants to come, you're more than welcome to come. I know we have, we have Jefferson, Candace Bichon, the new coach over there. She's bringing over her team. We have a team from South Central Calhoun that's coming down. And we also have, we have, I think two or three girls from Boone coming too. I wish there was more and time will tell. Well, yeah, we've got opportunities to do that. So Scott, now people are gonna always ask me because anytime we do these type interviews where we talk about registrations and they say, okay, when, how do I do this? What do I gotta do to register? So Scott, tell me, how do people get registered for this? How do they get the $60 so they can get into this great camp? Tell you what, you can go to the Ogden Girls wrestling page and there's a Google Doc form there. Fill out the Google, the Google talk, send that to me. You can pay at the door, either cash check or I just opened up a Venmo account. So make it easier on people to register for the camp. That's awesome. So again, coming up on August the 8th, we're talking first graders through seniors. So the littles, including the girls that I got talked about, maybe just have a year of wrestling left. They can go to this wrestling camp that's coming up on August the 8th. And I wanna talk more about Lily here in just a second, Scott. But I also know that the Ogden Girls wrestling team is doing something kind of cool for Raghbriar that's coming up on Tuesday. Are you getting out there on a bike and doing some biking or what are we doing here, coach? Nope, unfortunately, I'm not gonna do my Raghbriar this year or any year for that matter. That just seems like way too much work for me. We're actually gonna have a vendor booth in front of Ogden Total Fitness, right there, our kiddie corner from Fairway. We're gonna be, it's a free will donation. We have water, Gatorade. We have protein bars, something kind of special. We have frozen pickle juice. Oh, wow. And we also have pickle juice in shot syringes for the preparation. So hopefully they're gonna go over pretty good. And we're trying, it's kind of a team bonding thing. The more we do as a team, the better off we're gonna produce this winner. But we wanna raise money for a competition map. We like wrestling on the two brand new maps that boys have, but we want our own map. And we just need to raise the funds to kind of do that. And that is, actually, I should probably say, the reason that we have the funds to get Lilly to come to this camp is because of Whitney Schlis. She was very instrumental in doing our AAU fundraiser last winter to get Lilly to come to Ogden. And then she's been instrumental in the camp, getting it set up, basically being my assistant, helping me do everything that I don't wanna do, to be honest with you. And she does it like a bulldog, and I don't have to deal with it. And then she's helping me at the Raghbrite tent. So we're on our way to hopefully getting that competition map, but every dollar counts, you know that. No, it absolutely does, it absolutely does. So that's something great that's coming up again. That'll be during Raghbrite on Tuesday. And, Scott, I'm gonna guess you're gonna be there in the morning, and then as soon as the riders are kinda, hey, time to go to Boone, time to get out of here, then that's probably when you guys will, I'm guessing, pack it up, huh? Yep, I think we'll probably start, we'll start about seven o'clock. I'll be there earlier, obviously, we'll open doors at seven, and we'll go until the money runs on. I know that sounds bad, but as long as they wanna spend money, we'll be there. You'll be there, that's great. Okay, so one last time before we'll let you go, coach. We've got Lilly that's gonna be here, Lilly left from the University of Iowa. She's got your Ogden Girls wrestling camp. This is open for anybody first through seniors. 60 bucks, you get three hours, an opportunity to learn from one of the best here in the state, huh? Yep, and tell you what, we will open up our doors at eight o'clock. Just stay tuned to the Facebook page, because I know they're doing construction on the parking lot and where to park. Registration, six to nine o'clock, and we start wrestling at 10. And there is an opportunity in those three hours where Lilly breaks off and it's a meet and greet. She doesn't charge for pitchers. She does charge for t-shirts, I think they're $20. And the profits go all to Lilly on the t-shirt side. So it is a tremendous opportunity for the girls in this community and all girls wrestling to come learn from one of the best. Yeah, no question. What a record that she's been able to mass so far and still got a couple of years left. So again, that's coming up on August the 8th. It's Ogden High School Girls Wrestling, if you're wondering about the Facebook page. Pretty easy to figure it out. They've got a nice picture of the, for a little flyer, I guess you could say, on the page. So you'd be able to figure out right away. And then, as Scott said, you can pay at the door. I know you got your phone number on the bottom there too, coach. I suppose if anybody's got any questions, they could probably shoot you a text or shoot you a phone call, right? Yep, absolutely. 24-7, shoot me out of text and I'll get back to you right away. Scott, as always, thank you so much for some time. I told him before he called us and said, listen, I'm not supposed to talk to you in November, but you know what? This is a pretty cool event. So, Scott, I guess we'll talk to you early here and then we'll give you a little break until November. How about that? Sounds like a plan. Thanks a lot, Ryan. Again, I appreciate it. Yeah, it should be a great time. Again, that's a Scott McLeod. Ogden Girls Wrestling going to be a slobber knocker of the time coming up on August the 8th over at Ogden High School Gym with their wrestling camp.

(Deadline has been extended and you can also register the day of the camp)
