with us on Coach's Corner here in KWBEG and talk Augging Girls Wrestling put a wrap on a I think a really successful season I always ask about my coaches off air okay we got a good season we got an average season we got a bad season and coach said no we have we have because this is of course what Scott would do he says no we actually gonna go with D we had a great season so coach I'm gonna let you start talking about it great season this year huh yep you know what they had a great season they came out to wrestle each individual girl came together as a team this year with something that we haven't had in the past it's one thing to have 14 girls it's nothing to have a 14 girls on a team and this was a it was a team culture this year everybody pulling for everybody else and I always see bigger things next year 14 girls obviously you have to be close knit because you're here you're with each other and there's not a bunch you constantly I know we want that number higher but but Scott were you happy with I guess with the 14 girl did you feel like the quality was there yep absolutely I would definitely take quality over quantity I'd like to have the quality I'd like to have 35 girls in that room but in reality I'm I'm happy with my 14 you know what they are they were are together they like each other which is a new thing for our teams and they actually got along and it was a family active atmosphere and I couldn't ask for anything more well I was kinda looking back on the season sky I thought you had a ton of highlights and so I always hate to because I know I'm gonna miss one I'm gonna throw a couple out you tell me what I missed I feel like one of them early in the season though was that quad that you had with Winterset Martinsdale St.
Mary's Ballard in Central Decatur that to me was a huge night and and also it was early to I think it was an early December if I wrote this down right I mean Scott I thought that was a great start to the year and what a fantastic night of wrestling for you guys yeah that was an amazing night the girls came out to wrestle we went 4-0 and we destroyed everybody it was one of those dual that you dream about hoping to gosh you're gonna get it and by God they got it so everybody came out and they were they were there for mission we're gonna go 4-0 and we're gonna put our names on the map and I think they did well and it also kinda felt like to because you had different teams to wrestle at night I know I just named them off but I mean when I say different teams some had bigger roster some had smaller rosters it didn't look like it mattered though you guys kinda got out there and took care of business that evening yep they were on a mission that night Ryan they wanted to come out of there 4-0 they definitely wanted to beat Winterset on senior night you know Winterset paraded a bunch of people out there and their cheerleaders and everything and the girls kinda took offense to it and they kinda went to town so it was a no holds bar kinda dual meet for us well and that's something else too I wanna talk about and I'm gonna take kind of everything together but how about that dual meet record this year Scott this was something you told me when you first took over listen I wanna get more duels and I wanna just go to a school or have school come to us and it's us versus them and then we see what happens I mean that if I remember I was at 14 wins this year am I off on that yep we went we went 8-4 in year 2 or year 3 excuse me and I wanted more duals this year we went 14-2 we had to pull out of the last two duels of the year because we had a sickness going through but 14-2 great start not where I wanted to be I wanna be 20-0 next year I added duals to the meet schedule so our goal our goal this year was to prove that we were worthy to be down at the state tournament the dual state tournament next year and I think we're gonna be there next year well something else that I thought was big too how about conference runners up to coach I know that one it feels good to say runner up I know it felt good to be you know a little bit better to feel champion but boy that that's a heck of a day at what looks to be like an improving West Central activities conference yep it's a tough day runner up two years a row at them pretty hard pill to swallow but you know what we gave Woodward Granger run for the money at the final round we were down by five points and it was up and Woodward back and back every match we'd go up by five they'd go up by five you know I I want to be selfish I wanted to knock Woodward off their throne their last year in the conference we fell a little short but I think we're gonna be conference champs for a while now always looking at it and yep yeah you know there's a couple that you always love to hear that always love to hear that alright so obviously the cherry on top getting girls to stay that is what we're you know looking for at the beginning of the year obviously it's the improving we want to do this we want to do that then we want to get to stay and we we accomplished that goal I know we wanted to get some girls up on the podium I know that's coming but I thought this was a really good start this year coach what you were able to do and now building blocks for next season yep absolutely you know it's baby steps you know in year one we were just excited to be there year two we were excited to be there but we didn't really know what was gonna come year three we sent three girls we sent out Ryland, Grace and Sydney we know what we want to accomplish we fell a little short last year with Grace and Ryland yeah they might have missed their goal by a little bit but they know what they want they know how to get it and they paved the way to show these other girls and you know what this ain't such a big deal to be downstate let's go out there do exactly what we've been doing all year let's just do it the biggest level the highest stage and I think this year is gonna be one for the ages I think I think Jowel Wells will make it down to state Trinity, Stonemer will make it down to state Sophie Fleggman has a great chance of making downstate next year not to mention Ryland and Grace I think I want to send five girls if not more and I think we've got the team the culture and the chemistry to do it you sure you can handle taking five girls down to state wrestling my friend no comment that's what I wanted to hear Scott thank you for such a fantastic season always appreciate all the results you always had those in so timely and I really appreciate that thanks for all the coaches corner interviews as well I don't know if I'll ever top slobber knocker we're gonna try at some point next year I'm gonna drop I just drop a name or some sort of wrestling term that we haven't heard since the eighties I don't know what it's gonna be yet but I've been researching okay you know what I'll do my research on my end and I'll one up yet a thankful for all you do for all good wrestling and myself and my coaching but I appreciate it you best got mccloudigan joining us on girls wrestling here on coaches
