With us on coach's corner KWBG get a chance to put a wrap on Boon Volleyball season. Chambray Burke joining us as the Torridors had season come to an end to Carlisle in the post season and we'll get to that one here in just a few but to coach I remember we talked in September and it was like okay once September hits this uh this season just gonna kind of fly by and the next thing we knew it was October tell me about the the season for you did it fly by as fast as it seems like it always does? Yeah I knew it would go quick and people say like be careful you're gonna blink and it's over and I was like yeah yeah and nope it's that's exactly what happened we got into the flow of the season and then before we knew it we were at the end and it was a wild ride there were lots of highs lots of lows and so much to be grateful for and a lot to learn and and take moving forward. Kind of felt like you were playing your best uh some of your best volleyball this season early in the season against at the Woodward Granger tournament. Chambray I remember coming out of that tournament I thought there was some pretty solid competition there and I think if I remember right you guys went two and three in that tournament had a couple of nice wins kind of felt like I know we were early in the season but but things were starting to kind of shape up a little bit. Yeah absolutely there are and one of the things that we've talked about in these interviews together is one of our biggest battles hurdles whatever you want to call it is that consistency and the mental toughness and we've seen increases in that throughout the season but it was just that day it all came together and them ready to tackle and be aggressive and they really started to see themselves as those competitive players and they got that taste I think it applied there were a lot of strengths that we saw from that tournament that we carried throughout the season but there are so many things that each individual player grew on throughout this season and that was a great weekend of just celebrating early but showing of like hey here's where we're going. Well and the other positive part too is that kind of spilled out because the best of Boone County then was that following Thursday and you guys had a heck of a match against Ogden that was a ton of fun that gymnasium was jam packed and it was a lot of fun to watch that and your first opportunity to be a part of that tournament. It was so much fun and Boone hosts it next year but yeah it was a packed gym and it was just all of the girls together and how great is it to celebrate these programs in the area and just all of these girls coming together in this community of the love of volleyball and it was yeah like you said it was phenomenal play it was high energy it was loud energetic it was just a great night great experience and I loved being a part of it. Well another great experience too was senior night when Des Moines Lincoln came to town coach you had a sweep that night and it was nice to celebrate because once again you had a big senior class that went through Boone and feels like that is something that's been pretty consistent with Boone Volleyball for quite a while now and you got to send them out with a victory that night. Exactly and it was that's the game from this season I mean there's lots of takeaways but just the energy the gratitude the celebration the coming together as a community that's a game that I'm gonna keep with me and we were at Crestive fast-moving we were able to celebrate Carson Smith in her 500 career digs which she ended with 555 on the season and second in the conference for digs so lots of celebrations there and it was just a great night to highlight all those things. I know I just talk about a big senior class uh Sham Bray so we'll see what uh where do you think you'll you'll you'll remember what will you remember about this senior class Sham Bray when you're thinking about volleyball and I'm not just next year but let's throw you like five ten years down the road your first senior class is always one that's going to be memorable what do you think you'll remember about them? I think that I'm going to remember the fact that and it was our last huddle that we had and I just thanked them and I was like some of you had no idea like had worked with me in the school and I've been with Boone you know community schools in the high school for nine years now and but some of them I stopped speaking English and I moved to school counseling here at the high school as a student success coordinator and so some of them I haven't really crossed paths with and so here they are you know they put so much time and energy and dedication into this sport and now okay I'm about to be led in this program by someone I don't really know and this senior group embraced that so beautifully and the the amount of trust right out the gate and just the their willingness because I changed everything like there's with the practice structure the timing the all of it and not for a second where they like why is it why is it different and so that's what I'm going to remember is the amount of trust and grace and just community that they brought well it's a big senior class as we just mentioned you do have some returnees that'll come back next year Claire Hardinger number one and Kyra Darby Hailey Bingham Peyton Stolte Hallie Johnson obviously you know just off the top of my head Taylor Eggnell I know will be back as well it'll be a nice senior class of returns you'll have to get some help though out of that junior and sophomore class and then you'll have to have that freshman class that'll be sophomores next year kind of step up as well. Chambray what are you expecting in the offseason when it comes to competition for playing time? I love and that's one of the things I encourage players to talk to me about playing time in Burke what am I not doing what do I need to do what are you looking for those kinds of things and there were a lot of young players that came to me and said coach what are you wanting what do you want to see and so having those conversations has been phenomenal throughout the season now in offseason there have been girls that have been asking about okay what what do we need to do um and having those conversations I am so impressed with they're wanting to just develop those skills so as much as they can get into the gym we talk about club season and really I mean that's what it is is our conference and you look at it too it's a beast of a conference and it's just uh it's playing time it's exposure to high level volleyball high levels of competition um there are if you saw we had younger girls that throughout the season I kind of brought in we had um Kaylee and Claire were out quite a bit for tennis being rock stars there and so they knew when I talked with the season of teammates and athletes would have to step up and bring themselves in and show what they've got so I'm really excited the program honestly has so many great strong athletes that are putting in the time and the dedication so I can't wait to see what these upcoming seasons have it's more big groups for sure but um I'm just really excited to see where we go Chambray thank you so much for some time my best of luck here in the offseason I know it never really ends when it comes to to high school volleyball and now we'll look forward to talking to you again when they roll about in august next year perfect thanks so much you bet Chambray Burke again joining us boon volleyball here in coach's corner
