KWBG 10/13/26

Transcript

With us on coaches corner KWBG get a chance to talk some Ogden cross country today boy We got a lot of stuff to talk to you a coach kablisk about and and we're actually going to start off with last week because boys and girls had a chance to run in Low 70s sunshine and dry Ryan those I feel like are are three Situations we haven't had it a meet for a long time. How excited were the kids to run last week in jewel? Oh, kid enjoyed every minute of that meet I think maybe not the effort they had to put into the race and it was the biggest effort we've seen from them all season, but Like you said weather and cancellations have been a big part of the story this year and it Limited some of our racing opportunities and with our team being kind of inexperienced and working in a lot of new faces this year It's been very important for us to get some of that experience that we can Learn how to race a little bit better, but we are finally early October Getting to that point where kids have some of that experience and we're starting to see the racing skills matching the fitness that they built throughout practice all season and Yeah, that showed up with what we thought was easily our best and most competitive race throughout the season Well, I'm gonna start on the girls side of things coach and boy This was a loaded group of girls teams that showed up I knew it was a good field going in and then when I got your report the next morning I had missed about three ranked teams and didn't realize that there was as I mean I knew that that North Polk obviously strong season West Marshall same Collins Maxwell Madrid no question. I'd missed AC GC and Linville Sully who both came in ranked on the girls side of things and coach You're you're right in the middle of the pack there. I mean granted the five ranked teams I mentioned were up there Linville Sully. I didn't have enough for a team, but goodness gracious I thought the girls ran pretty well that day And I would agree with you. We felt like again for the girls team This was our best effort and our best race of the season being in a meet that was so deep where competitive ranked teams like that maybe masks our progress a little bit but We had well over half of our girls line up Set new personal records with how fast they raised this meet We had two of our regular varsity runners out of the lineup and we still finished closer to some of those ranked teams Then we have all seasons so very excited to see the progress Sophie Saligman was top finisher for us and she finished under 22 minutes for the first time in her career Alayna Wilson was made some great progress strong finish to her race and she was our second runner for the first time this year and I really want to mention Ryland Casey had a really strong strong race she she ran under 24 minutes for the first time and that's really helped to Compress our scoring pack and just make us a much more competitive team than we have been all year Well, and I said it for the girls side I can say it for the boys side again What what a loaded field was on that boys side? Linville Sully and South Hamilton were both ranked coming in Madrid boys actually been around the rankings as well and coach you find yourself in a fourth place finish above school such as a Northpoke a rolling story Eagle Grove I knows had some pretty good squads in the past panorama as well boys had to feel Extremely pleased and there was something else that was all over my sheet not just for the girls side of things coach There was this PR that kept showing up about every single one of your runners every one of the kids seemed like there was a PR day for them Yeah, just across the board a great day for our cross-country team We thought especially on the boys side where every one of our boys ran their fastest race of this season But I know sometimes it can be when we see all those PRs We think maybe it was just an easy course or something like that But our guys really earned that with their effort in this race I think again those learning how to race guys are learning how to push themselves a little bit better, but especially with the team standings we Finished higher finish more competitive against some of these teams Then we have all season and that group of teams that we finished with up there the South Hamilton mad red those are teams that are gonna be competitive for state qualifying spots next week And so for us to be running our best races right now is it's very exciting Our top three guys mild back and Luke Continue to be as strong as they have all season, but where we really saw the progress this week was Brody Hitsman as our fourth runner and Kale Anderson as our chance runner you guys both improved their best time of the season by a full minute Anytime you can make progress like that with your fourth and fifth runners You're gonna drop a lot of points off of your team's core and and just be much more competitive well and just What a way to what a way to get ready and now they have to get ready a little bit quicker Ryan because Word came out late yesterday that the West Central Activities Conference meet I'm all for it, but they had to move things to Wednesday because of the forecast, which does not look very conducive To running on Thursday first off coach. When did you get the information in second? What do the kids think when they found out that it was actually a day earlier?

We found out yesterday in the morning, so I think Athletic directors wanted to make sure we had the best opportunity to compete and to get that meet Taking place in good conditions and so we're fine with that. I don't know that the kids had a big reaction either way It certainly changes our practice plans for a little bit this week, but We had a good practice yesterday I think kids are looking forward to it and we'll be ready to go for for the ones they meet one day earlier Well, and then we also knew that this was coming. We were just kind of patient about Locations and we knew where the locations were going to be for the for the post season for for districts and state qualifying meet We just didn't know where everybody was going and finally on Tuesday morning coach We found out that Ogden wasn't going to go too far. In fact, they were going to go to a pretty familiar course What do you think when you first saw where your post season location was? Well, we just found out this morning that we're heading back to South Hamilton next week for state qualifying, right? where we raced last week and like we've talked about that was a big breakout meet for our kids where we had a lot of success and Kids enjoyed the course. So I think having That strong positive association with racing there gives us a big confidence boost For for competing on that same course for state qualifying next week so yeah, we're we're very excited to to be heading back to South Hamilton and You know kids are looking forward to getting ready to to take a shot at getting some runners and maybe a team or two And two into the state meet this year. Yeah, no question. Ryan is always. Thank you so much for some time Best of luck tomorrow down in Guthrie Center than obviously in South Hamilton next week and we'll talk to you again here real soon Okay, thank you, Ryan. You bet Ryan Kabliss again joining us Ogden cross country here on coaches corner
