Coaches Corner for October 30th: Danielle Lopez, DMACC Volleyball

KWBG 10/30/26

Transcript

With us on coaches corner, KWBG going to talk some DMACC volleyball today. The Bears have a chance for a home match with the Region XI tournament. That'll be coming up tomorrow at one. And we'll talk more about that here in just a few. But tell you what, what I want to talk about, Danielle, is playing your best volleyball of the season. Five consecutive wins as you get ready for Central Nebraska this weekend. Had a great one with Indian Hills on Monday. Danielle, if you want to play your best volleyball this season, this is the time to get it done. Definitely, you know, we always want to say that you want to be peeking towards the end of October and not in September. So you were really excited to see that the girls are really styled in and like said, playing some really good volleyball right now. What's been the positive part so far, Danielle? I mean, you don't you don't go through what you've been able to do and you know, win five in a row if if things aren't working great. What's been working well? Yeah, I think a big part is really rallying around each other. You know, we've been going through some adversity and some injuries and just moving some different moving parts around and, you know, just staying together as a unit and all realizing, you know, the common goal is, you know, we're really at the end part of postseason and kind of this is now the part where all of our goals are really there for us to achieve and really pushing, you know, pedals to the metal there. Well, and you've been getting some tremendous play. Tell me about Ramsey Johnson a little bit. It feels like she has kind of elevated and she's been very good. But I mean, she's just been awesome the last couple of weeks. Yeah, she she's really a huge, huge influence for us, both on the court and off the court as a leader. You know, she just this past week got Athlete of the Week for the conference. And then she also got NJC double A athlete of the week as well, which was huge, too. Yeah, she's playing great volleyball all all around the court. You know, she's been having a lot of games where she's putting up triple doubles through digs, assists and kills. So, you know, she's really someone that can really produce some really big points for us. Well, and somebody else, I'm going to go right from one to the other that could put up some points. And that's Clayburg and Malia just seems like she's rounding into that form that I would not want to have to face any one of those two when it comes to postseason. She's getting after it when it comes to kills, you know, double digits seems like all the time for her. But she's also getting after the volleyball when it comes to digs as well. And coach just feels like this is a girl who, you know, getting ready for postseason. And, you know, when that when the regular season gets done, people's eyes light up a little bit more. I mean, postseason gets you kind of excited. It kind of feels like she's really rounding into like, you know, look out for her in the postseason. Yeah, definitely. She has really developed tremendously throughout the season. She's really adapted to, you know, the speed that we run. And, you know, she's really, really coming to her own. And like I said, she's one of those that is really peaking at the right time. All right. Let's talk about just what's been going on. And that is region 11 a tournament and that bracket came out. We found out that Kirkwood would be the number one seed in the region. 11 a you guys coach get a chance a to host, which is always awesome. B, if I tell you, you're not driving out to central Nebraska. You love that and see tournament volleyball at home always feels amazing. It really does. Yeah. Like you said, first of all, not having to travel to Nebraska. It's always great, but getting to host and the girls getting to, you know, sleep in their own beds tonight is, is a, it's a definite advantage. And getting the opportunity to have, you know, some home fans and, you know, having their own, you know, serve and pass in our own gym is really huge. And you always want to be able to host that first round. And it's Halloween too. That's got to be a little fun too. Right? It is. Yeah. We did have a Halloween practice yesterday and that was hilarious to see a lot of their costumes. So, um, yeah, the girls are really, really getting into it, enjoying it. And, um, it'd be interesting to see if, uh, we have any fans come out and any costumes tomorrow. Did we get, uh, we get the coaching staff into this too? Yes. My assistant, uh, she had a whole, uh, like T-Rex outfit as well. She got it in a T-Rex outfit. She did. Yeah. It's a whole blow up like outfit. It was hilarious. Well, if I don't get pictures, Danielle, I'm going to be very disappointed. You'll see them all over social media. Oh, I love to see that. Hey, best of luck coming up tomorrow afternoon. Again, we're going to first serve at one o'clock, get out there, watch the bears. It should be a fun afternoon. You got plenty of time to go trick or treat tomorrow night. Uh, Danielle, best of luck. Thanks for some time on coach's corner. Thank you so much. You bet. Daniel Lopez again, joining us. T-Mac volleyball here on coaches corner.
