Nighttime closure on I-35 between Elkhart and Ames scheduled for July 17th
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – July 17, 2025 – If you drive on Interstate 35 between Huxley and Ames you need to be aware of an upcoming nighttime closure on I-35 that may slow down your trip.
I-35 will be closed in both directions between NE 126th Avenue and U.S. 30 beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 17 to 5 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025 (weather permitting). The closure is necessary so crews can set beams for the new Iowa 210 bridge over I-35.
During the closure, drivers will follow a marked detour using NE 126th Avenue, U.S. 69, and U.S. 30. See map below.

Changes could be made to detour routes during the construction season. Please visit 511ia.org for current detour route information before traveling through this construction zone and pay attention to detour signing and messages boards while driving.
