Continuing the Legacy: New Director Leads BCH Foundation Forward

KWBG 09/15/25

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Hospital (BCH) is proud to announce that Rachel Mann, longtime Marketing and Events Coordinator for the BCH Foundation, has been named the new Executive Director.

For the past nine years, Rachel has played a key role in advancing the Foundation’s mission, strengthening community ties and expanding its impact. Her creativity, leadership, and deep connection to the community make her a natural fit for the role.

“Rachel understands our mission and has a true gift for connecting people to it,” said Shellie Grabau, BCH Foundation Board President. “We’re excited to see her lead us forward.”

Rachel succeeds Sara Klute Behn, who is stepping down after 20 years to embark on a new professional chapter. Reflecting on her time, Sara shared, “The Foundation is about legacy, connecting generosity with impact and ensuring excellent care for generations to come.”

She continued, “When people support the Foundation, they’re not just giving to a single project—they’re investing in the long-term health and vitality of our community. That legacy of giving ensures that BCH can continue innovating, expanding services, and caring for our families and neighbors for decades to come. Supporting the Foundation means being part of that story; it’s a gift that lives on well beyond ourselves.”

Sara added, “The most rewarding part of my role has been witnessing the direct impact of generosity in action. When a donor gives, it’s more than just dollar…it’s hope, access, and care.”

“On behalf of Boone County Hospital, we extend our deepest gratitude to Sara for 20 years of extraordinary leadership, dedication and service,” says BCH CEO Mikaela Kienitz.  “Under Sara’s guidance, the Foundation has grown in impact, integrity and vision – leaving a legacy that will inspire generations to come. We wish Sara the very best in her next chapter.”

She adds, “At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome Rachel as the new Executive Director of the Foundation. Rachel’s creativity, energy and enthusiasm bring a fresh perspective and exciting momentum to our mission. We look forward to the journey ahead under Rachel’s leadership.”

Rachel expressed her gratitude: “It’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of the Foundation’s growth. Sara has been an amazing mentor, and I’m honored to carry on her legacy while bringing my own vision to the role. I’m excited to continue making a difference alongside our board, staff, donors, and community.”

She concluded, “I want to express my sincere thanks to Sara, our Foundation board, and Boone County Hospital for their support as I take on this new role. The Foundation thrives because of the generosity and dedication of so many including donors, volunteers, employees, and community members, and I look forward to working together to continue building something truly special for Boone County.”
