Council Approves Site Plans, Projects Expected to Proceed

KWBG 07/18/18

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council this week did approve site plans for new construction in Boone.  A plan for Schultz Laboratories company was approved for the R.L. Fisher business park on Corporal Snedden Drive.  The project calls for the construction of a nearly 13,000 square foot building consisting of office space, warehousing and their manufacturing process.  The company employs 8 people but could see possible expansion.  The city will be working with the company on some of the fire safety requirements that will be needed.

The City Council also approved the site plan for the Eastern Star Masonic Home addition and expansion.  The site plan covers the proposed 8,700 square foot Wellness Center and elevator addition.  The plan also shows a redesign of the parking lot around the new addition to meet requirements and increase parking.

The site plan that was questionable was a plan submitted by Civil Design Advantage on behalf of Verizon Wireless.  The building would be located in the southwest corner of the parking lot in front of the current Fareway Education Center at 1215 SE Marshall Street.  The Plan and Zoning Commission sought some clarification and including easements.  Boone City Building Official Ed Higgins told the council that Civil Design provided all the necessary information and staff recommended approving the site plan.

All three projects are expected to move ahead yet this year.
