BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council did vote to accept the resurfacing project on Story Street during their regular meeting Monday. It also offered Mayor Eli Stines an opportunity to have the Council take formal action regarding the flashing red lights at 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Streets. Earlier the Council indicated the traffic signals at those intersections would remain flashing red lights until next spring before they intended to install stop signs. That intent was confirmed Monday with the Council voting unanimously to have Boone Public Works remove the lights at those intersections and replace them with permanent stop signs. On the KWBG Tuned In Program, Stines said two residents spoke about returning the lights to their regular operation and cited reasons to change back. However, the Council felt there was more support to keep the intersections as 4-way stops. Stines said it will take some time to made the transition which may stretch to next spring.
