Court Summary from Boone County Attorney’s Office

KWBG 08/29/26

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Attorney Matt Speers office has released a summary of court cases handled by his office from August 17th thru August 28th. The cases include guilty verdicts in a burglary case investigated by Boone Police and a sentencing of a Perry man charged with Felony convictions for grooming and enticing a minor.

COURT SUMMARIES

8-17-25 – 8-28-26

– Justin Carrol Deal, 46, Marshalltown, and, Ryan Dale Dunn, 40, Marshalltown, appeared in District Court for a jury trial on the charge of Burglary 1st Degree, a Class B Felony. Justin Deal faced the additional charges of Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd, a Class D Felony; and, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor. Following trial the jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts against both defendants. Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date, at which time both face up to 25 years on the Burglary charge. Justin Deal faces up to an additional 16 years on the other two counts. The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.

– Juan Pablo Ruiz Oliva, 44, Perry, was sentenced by the District Court following a bench trial verdict of guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class B Felony; Grooming and Enticing a Minor, both Class D Felonies. The defendant was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory 12.5 years before being eligible for parole. The defendant was also sentenced to a lifetime special parole and lifetime Sex Offender Registry Requirement. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– Dominic Michael Mutchler, 32, Harcourt, was sentenced by the District Associate Court following a guilty plea to OWI 1st, a Serious Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 4 days in jail, completion of a substance abuse evaluation with follow through of treatment, a course for drinking drivers, plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– James Harold Jameson, 30, Des Moines, was sentenced by the District Associate Court following a guilty plea to Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 7 days in jail plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.

– Taylor Michael Clabaugh, 34, Boone, was sentenced by the Magistrate Court following a guilty plea to Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.
