Dale Titman

KWBG 12/02/22

BOONE, Iowa—Dale Eugene Titman, son of Victor and Belle (Coffey) Titman was born September 11, 1926, in Aurora, Nebraska. He passed away on November 29, 2022, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa at the age of 96 years.

Dale grew up in Aurora, Nebraska, and later moved with his family to Boone, Iowa. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1944. He was drafted into the United State Navy on January 8, 1945. He was stationed aboard the USS Shasta, which was an ammunition ship. Dale was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy in July of 1946. He then began farming in 1946.

On November 20, 1949, Dale was united in marriage to Lois Tingwald at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. They were the proud parents of two children: Marte and Vicki. They made their home on the family farm where Dale continued to farm for many years.

Dale stayed very active as a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he was a church president and elder. He was also a very active member of the V.F.W Francis Steele Post 817 where he was the post commander. For many years Dale was a part of the Color Guard for parades, football games, and many other sporting events and special events when called upon. He was also very active with the Boone Veteran’s Council doing Military Honors for funerals, and assisting with 40-50 funerals a year. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club. He was also a member of the V.F.W. State Bowling Team and on the Farmers CO-OP Elevator Board.

Dale enjoyed attending Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren’s events where he was their biggest fan. He also enjoyed watching the boys farm, always making sure they were doing things the right way.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lois; sisters: Vila Sturtz and Lillian Sturtz; brother-in-law, Darrell Tingwald; and sister-in-law, Jean Bjustrom.

He is survived by a son, Marte Titman, and wife, Beth of Boone; a daughter, Vicki Kleinhans, and husband, Rick of Naperville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Ben (Heidi) Kleinhans of Oswego, Illinois, Kylie (Steve) Arndt of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Dane (Sydney) Titman, Ryan (Courtney) Titman both of Boone, Iowa, and Ellen Titman of Kansas City, Missouri; ten great-grandchildren, Drew, Blake, and Trey Kleinhans, Austin and Elle Arndt, and Casen, Lane, Crew, Collins and Scout Titman; a sister-in-law, Joni Tingwald of Boone, Iowa; special caregiver and friend, Janet Prindell; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Although we are very sad, we are happy that he is at peace with his wife Lois of 73 years.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Monday, December 5, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone, IA 50036 with Rev. Michael Standfest officiating. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa with Military Honors by the Boone Veteran’s Council. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone, IA 50036.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the V.F.W. Francis Steele Post 817.

Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.schroederfuneral.com.
