Darwin Madden, Sr.

BOONE, Iowa—Darwin Dale Madden, Sr., 84, formerly of Stanhope, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House, in Ames.

Darwin was born on May 28, 1940, in Mackey, Iowa, the son of Roy Henry and Fern Pansy (Smalley) Madden. He grew up in Mackey with his siblings: one brother – DeWayne and two sisters – Donna Mae and Beverly.

Darwin was united in marriage to Lorraine Joyce Cox on August 1,1964, at the Marion Street Methodist Church, in Boone. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this year. To their union were born 4 daughters; Darla, Deana, Danielle, and Shaunae.

When Darwin was younger, he drove stock cars racing at Dayton Speedway, Webster City, and the Boone Speedway. He worked for Wenger Trucking, Madden Trucking, Archway and retired from Fareway in 2006.

Darwin and his family lived in Boone for many years, before moving to Stanhope until earlier this year. Darwin hauled gravel after he retired. His past times were camping and fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Darla; two brothers, Delbert and DeWayne.

Darwin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine Madden; daughters, Deana (Chris) Williams, Danielle (Brian Pribyl) Madden, and Shaunae (Jerry) Overturf; grandchildren, Thayne and Ty Vinchattle, Talynn Griggs McCormick and Trevor Griggs, and Tatum, Tacie and Trenton Overturf; two sisters, Donna Mae Thede and Beverly (Arland) Van Schuyver.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mackey Cemetery. Please join the family for refreshments after the graveside service at the Mackey Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Darwin’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
