Daryl D. Schwarzenstein

KWBG 11/30/22

Daryl was born on April 20, 1936 at his family home in New Hampton, the son of Frederich and Luella (Biermann) Schwarzenstein. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1954.

On June 4, 1961, Daryl was united in marriage with Jean Grace Heffernan. The couple welcomed 3 children, Dean, David and Dawn. Daryl and Jean moved to Boone in June of 1983.

Daryl began working for Fareway Stores, Inc. as a part-time driver and then moved to the warehouse until his retirement in 2001.

Daryl was an excellent bowler and shared that passion with many over the years in Boone. He taught countless kids to bowl and was a member of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).

Daryl also enjoyed the dirt track. He raced in the early ‘60s and later was the body man on his son Dean’s pit crew at the Boone Speedway. You may have known Daryl as Pops or Big D. Daryl was a car enthusiast. He attended numerous cars shows and would lend a hand to anyone that needed to work on their personal car. Daryl loved his family and became everyone’s best friend.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jean in 2003. He is survived by his children, Dean and David Schwarzenstein of Wesley and Dawn Schwarzenstein of Boone; his “adopted” daughter, Dennice Colvin of Boone; granddaughters, Katy Johnson and Jessica McLeod; brother, Coral Schwarzenstein of Sumner; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.

Online condolences may be left at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.

Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
